In STTs on tribecca, has anyone noticed that seats at the bottom of the screen are usually the winners ;)
Is this because they are better spots or because they are mentally more comfortable on the eyes?

I never noticed this to be honest, but i do normally seat at the bottom, no real reason, just click there first

so the question remains, is it mentally easier to sit on the bottom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,267 ✭✭✭DubTony

Whatever about mentally; it has, without a doubt, been proven to be physically easier to sit on the bottom that on any other part of the anatomy. :D

It's quite obvious when you think about it. The chips are affected by gravity and hence fall towards the bottom of the screen.

On a serious note though, my favorite seat is the one at the bottom. Maybe everyone feels most comfortable there?

Yep, I always sit at the bottom 1 to the right of Bottom Middle seat

I remember when I first played online I played STTs and sat in the middle bottom seat. I thought that was the only sensible seat to take or else it would feel like you were upside down or on your side. After playing a few I came across circumstances where the seat was taken so I waited till the next STT was available.

Hmm...so you're the guy that's always taking my seat :D

actually, thats my fave seat too, well that and bottom right.
    stranger and stranger.
So, is there an advantage to sitting in a position onscreen that is more comfortable to you, thus enabling you to play to the best of your ability without feeling you ar eplaying 'upside down'?

no it's all in your head.

I always look to sit in seat 1, but I don't think I do any better or worse regardless of what seat I'm in. I can be equally bad in all seats.

this is weird..... I always try to sit on the top. either top left or top right. Wonder why that is.... surely there is some unusual subconscious reasoning to all this (as well as the perfectly logical reasons Flibble has already put forward :D )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,053 ✭✭✭jimbling

Oh.....and of course it can have an effect.

In the same manner that someone missing his good luck charm can have an effect on someone who believes in it.
i.e. if you subconsciously think that you do better in certain seats, or even that you are just more comfortable there, when you are deprived of said seat you will automatically assume you are at a disadvantage that you would normally not have to deal with.
Although there is no physical, or even real change, your mind is now in a slightly altered state...... and your mind controls everything you do. So, it is quite possible you just wont play poker as well as you would have.

But it's only the weak minded would let something like this effect them :p

I once asked on PaddyPower Manager chat if they could suggest a feature to the software developers where the table is rotated so you always sit in the same seat. They said they could't even suggest anything to the software developers, but they did advise me that this feature is available on Full tilt???
Anyway It shouldn't make that big a difference, just turn you monitor upside down if the only open seats are at the top.

You can do that on Stars as well as Full Tilt.

;) This is a relief, I too am a bottom middler. It always felt like a dirty little secret but now with this thread I feel liberated and willing to proclaim it from the rooftops.... okay not quite.... oh, and I guess the fact that I am typing this declaration whilst hopping on my right foot so as not to incur some jinx on my bottom seat, means that this dirty little secret should have perhaps stayed forever hidden??....

oh, there is some benefit about consistent seat so I can just glance when multi tabling without having to remember where I was sitting.... blah blah blah...... but that just makes me sleep better at night

    .....

okay.... the post poker session 23 minute hop on my right leg makes me sleep better at night..... I'll get my coat

    IT IS NOT BONKERS.

People who multi-table, are often winning players at a given level.

They are often the 1st or second player to sign into a given STT, as they want to make sure they have a steady 'x' number of tables running.

By default they tend to sit at the bottom of the screen, as one of the first signed in.

    QED.

When I multitable I try to sit in the top left of one table, top right of another, bottom right and bottom left of the other.

I sit in seats so that when I am multi tabling I can see my hands on the other table(s) as they are dealt. This allows me to know if I need to switch or I can let it time out etc.

Also, if Tribeca was rigged and I'm a site owner, how come I'm doing my bollox? :):)

you obviously sitting in the wrong seats.

When I play MTTs on Full Tilt I'll sometimes right click different seats and select PUT ME HERE just to take the monotony out of it. Last night I did it just before the break and when the game restarted I thought I'd gotten no cards. :D:D:D:D

I wasnt clear about that... I only let it time out if I'm in the middle of a big hand on the other table. Otherwise I would already have pulled that table forward anticipating the cards....

Fair enough, I thought it'd be something like that.

Just having a frustating week on the $25 STTs on Tribeca, regularly only getting through 4 or 5 hands a level because of people timing out instead of folding.
The nadir was reached on Friday when we got through TWO hands over an 8 minute level, so its a bone of contention with me this week.

Played a few $5 STTs while alcoholically challenged this evening, and it was refreshing to have a zippy game where 12+ hands per 8minute level wasnt unusual.

I have a pretty solid theory to back up this bottom of the table situation.

It has been shown in this thread the seats in the bottom middle to bottom right area of the screen are the most popular. People prefere that area of seats.

Given an empty table people will choose those seats.

Better players in the game have a prefered game. People who play alot will have a clear preference for 9 or 6 seats, regular, speed, turbo or extended. They will play better at that paticular game.

Some players will look at the STT screen for there buy-in and sit in the game that is nearest to being full. these people will in general fair worse as they play a wider variety of games and choose them at random, not by their strengths.

The players that sit at their prefered game will often be the first few players to sit down. And so be at the bottom of the screen in their prefered seats.

Players who play a random game will be forced into the left over seats.

So it is ok to assume that players in the bottom of the screen, chose that game as they do better at it, and will in the long run do better.
