Just looking for some help on buying a computer ( Im pratically 100% clueless as to what I need to look for). I want to get a laptop but im not sure if it would play games. what would i need to look out for if I wanted to play games? Also what else should I look for anyway in terms of memory, graphics, internet etc.?
    Any help much appreciated

Whats your budget and what type of games would you want to play on it?

Keep away from a laptop for gaming purposes unless:

    1) You have money to burn, and if you dont:
    2) You don't mind playing games on low settings

Typically, a gaming laptop will cost 200% of the cost of a similar performing desktop machine, which at least is upgradable, whereas your laptop won't be generally speaking unless you really know your stuff, which, from your post, you don't. :D

A laptop capable of playing modern games can be had for a modest price, 700-1200, but it will be outdated as soon as you get it, and will not last long in terms of new releases.

I'd definately recommend a desktop, however, if a laptop is totally essential then....as petes said, state your budget primarily, and then a list of what you'd like to run on it. No point going through this talk if all you want to play is Solitare, Counter Strike, or some sort of Football Manager title! (Any 500 laptop would play this sort of stuff, generally)

The budget would be up to 1000 but I suppose I could push it out to 1200. The last time I followed new releases was when Far Cry came out, would games like Far Cry, Halo, big games that have come out over the last 1-3 years run smoothly? The expansion bit as well is probably quite important which is why I would get a desktop although I would like to bring my computer with me if I was going on holidays or to college

Games like Halo and Far Cry would run pretty well on budget laptops at this stage, such as the cheap Dell 1501 with Radeon X1150....starts at about 500 euro.

For 1000, you'd get a laptop that plays those games on high settings, and is easily capable of running new games too, albiet on lower settings. Guess it depends on what you want really - just to be able to play the games mentioned and save some cash, or push the boat out a bit further. Either way, laptops depreciate extremely quickly, much more so then desktops usually.
