Clear Varnish question

I am looking to paint new pine skirting boards/doors in the house with clear varnish. Before I do this does anyone know of a brand that wont allow the sun to darken it over time. I understand over time there is always going to be a slight darking of pine wood but as I am sure you all know when pine is subjected to light over many years it goes that orangey colour. Am I asking for the impossible or is there a brand of varnish out there that has a chemical in it that stops this?.

    Thanks Cubix

hi, to my knowledge there is no such varnish.
get a water-based floor varnish and sanding sponges. waterbased is very good as it leaves a much better finish (no heavy brush strokes) than oil-based

I know it might not be the answer you want, but I had skirtings replaced in my sitting room but still to this day I havent got around to putting a coat on them. They still look like the same the day they went in and it was over 2years ago...As the saying goes the chef never wants to cook at home. But in hindsight I would of used water based finishes instead of oil based on my woodwork when I gutted it.

Thanks lads, MadM do you reckon then its the varnish that causes the yellowing?. Does your room get much natural light as I think its this what causes pine to darken/yellow. I have been experimenting with water downed wood white washes and it may work.

the oil-based varnishes cause the yellowing were as water-based dosen't.all timber will darken with age but sun bleaches timber lighter though.
