So I always assumed that Pres. David Palmer was a Democrat losely based on Pres. Clinton, however it's never mention on the show during Day 1 or Day 2 when elections are taking place.

Keeler I always assumed was what FOX would like Bush to be and hence a Republican, however a very one dimensional character of being a good president.

Logan was much more in the vain of Bush, i.e. Someone is pulling his strings but he acts like he has the backing of the USA and that he is in control.

Pres. Keith Palmer well I haven't taken to him as president.

The producers have never stated which party any of the presidents represent however wikipedia somehow come to the same conclusion as me that The Palmers are Democrats and Keeler and Logan are Repubicans.

But then Wikipedia also assume that Logan didn't stay in office after Day 5.

I assume you mean Wayne Palmer (David's brother) rather than Keith (David's son)???

    Sorry!

Surely politics plays a major role in 24.

As for wikipedia, the producers have never mentioned the parties and I don't think that they have mentioned it on any offical websites.

Regardless of the President's politics, CTUs politics always struck me as extremely right-wing. They condone torture of enemy combatants, they don't always believe in due process if something needs to be done, and all civil rights will be suspended if Jack asks it (normally after telling someone that he needs them to trust him).

Indeed there was an article on IMDB about a week ago complaining that '24' is right-wing propaganda..

But surely the politics in the White House sets of the pro-right wing views of CTU.

If you look at Head of Homeland Security in day 5 she (Karen Hayes) seems more Left wing (well as left wing as you can go in the US) while her right wing Assistant (Miles) conspires with a very right wing Pres Logan.

Surely there is some sort of balance.

However the current story with the Left wing Sandra Palmer really is propaganda, the likely hood of internment help to solve any issues is totally OTT right wing.

I think the let Jack be a government agent he is there to do a job, even during Day 5 he has some loyalty towards Logan.

Why do you believe Hayes is Left Wing and her assistant was Right wing ?

First of America's Idea of Right wing and left wing are different to Europe's understanding of the terms. Left wing in America is that little bit more central then its hard line right wing, but very much right leaning centre.

Hayes thinks about what jack has to say, and is willing to allow President Logan be investigated for any crimes he has committed, on the other hand Miles sees this as an opportunite to get into the Presidents good books hence he gets to Washington. I feel that she is that little bit more Left wing then Miles for this reason and also her advise to President Palmer in Day 6.

Nah they make it clear actually, Palmer is a democrat. They say it in season 1 when he is going to make the speech to union in episode 8 somewhere. Keeler ran against him for president so he is republican, Logan was his deputy so he is republican and Wayne would naturally be a democrat like his brother.

And despite what they are always saying in these programs, America does negotiate with terrorists! (in 24 I mean)

Seriously though lads of course the Palmers are Democrats. They're black ffs!! No way a Repulican President would be black. He wouldn't get the nomination or the support of enough of the Republican base to be elected.

There's a simple hollywood formula. All good politicians are Democrats and all evil ones are Republicans. You need only watch the West Wing to be sure of that.

No TV show is ever going to outright paint themselves as PRo-dem or Rep because if they do they would lose roughly 1/2 their audience.

The show isnt necessarily a propoganda piece either: at various stages they are seen promoting either side in fairness: the concept of promoting any and all means of apprehending terrorists could be viewed as Republican but a very anti-Rep view could be taken of President Logan say: only emphasising the idea that any defunct self-fulfilling bastard can take the office and wreak hell.

Having said that they don't strictly follow any one view but I suppose they do have to be slightly mindful when they're being aired through FOX. For example, they've painted a good image for the use of The Patriot Act (*shudder* - but tbf I havent heard much about this being abused thus far) .

Either way I've given up on US politics: they are totally f*d and will be for another decade.
