Rotating photos

Quick question: in Windows, when you go to rotate a pic a message pops up saying that rotating the image may permanently reduce its quality, or words to that effect. Is this true (and is it a significant reduction in quality)? And if so, is there a better way to rotate picture? Thanks

There's no actual reduction as far as I know. The point is that it has to reprocess the image to turn it the other way, so in theory it won't be perfect. Although always use an image editing program if you can, like photoshop.

The problem is that if you rotate a jpeg and save it with software that isn't clever, it will compress it again when you save it, thereby losing quality. I think photoshop and the likes can do lossless rotation.

photoshop can do lossless rotation on lossless formats - any resaving into a lossy format is bound to result in some degree of loss.
