No, I'm not involved with the club but I think the dancing at about 1:02 into the video is very impressive. As far as I know, NUIMSD are basically a group of cross training martial artists that do a lot of seminars. Bits of Karate and Jujitsu and stuff mixed in together. Every so often one of their people posts here about their seminars which I think Seamus (bored 1) went to (the tonfa one). They're very enthusiastic about what they do, but I wouldn't consider their stuff realistic it's far too ninjaly.

It all looks compliant, which is fine if it's just a demo. I'd like to see a video of how they actually train.

Been to some senimars they've held, enthusiastic and pretty big into what they do, but didn't see anything that stood out as fighters if you get me?
More doing it for the fun of it, which is probably the best reason to do martial arts anyway. Good craic, but don't expect to knock people out.
Its more like they're gathering techniques than changing training methods from what Ive seen.
But as I said, good guys and good fun.

    Nothingcompares, its Kev right?

I went to the tonfa seminar and depending on what they were offering I would train with them again, as stated above they are nice people who ave are very interested in what they do. To the Op why not pop along and see what their regular training is like. The impression I got was that if you were interested and contacted them first of course, that it would be ok to observe some of a class.

It's a little out of my way. My reason for posting is to see if what they do matches whats on the video. Would you say that putting on a nice show for the cameras happens often with these kinds of promo videos?

If you really interested in what they do and want to know, drop them an email and go out and train with them see if it suits you?

Its the only way you will find out one way or the other :D.

Used to train with them a few years back, brilliant bunch of people :D Yes we used to do a lot of the stuff in the video during the "unofficial" classes ;)
As said give it a shot, I doubt you would regret it!

    Kenpo!!!!

I know that guy, Darryl Murray, I must beat him up some time.

Time for some martial arts maths...

Sleeveless Gi's + Kenpo patches + doing kata instead of using the nearby heavy bags+ rocking out!!! = a recipe for ULTIMATE destruction

That video made me so pumped I'd have to ask "Why AREN'T you training with NUI Maynooth Self Defence club right now?".
