Cleaning and Sealing cobblelock

I have found one or two posts on cobblelock but not on this. Basically we have a very large cobbelock area which needs to be cleaned badly. The last time we got it done the guy hosed away everything including half the sand. It looked great for six months and lo and behold we had weeds everywhere.

So we would like to get it right this time. :)
I am assuming that once it has been cleaned we'll need to put down some more sand. Ideally we'd also like to find some way to seal it to keep down the weeds. I would appreciate some thoughts or guidelines on it.

Be careful who you get to do it. We had fellas from a particular community do it recently. They did an okay job on the cobblelock but left the rest of the place in a mess. They emptied out our bin on the side passage so they could use it for water for a neighbour's driveway without asking us. Then they left the rubbish on the ground and headed off when they were finished.

Also, after agreeing a price with one of them, they other fella tried to get more money from us when he was finished.

Watch out for cowboys. You'd be better finding someone in the golden pages, i'd say.

That must be the northern community as there is a couple of lads from the north of ireland where consumer law is impossible to enforce. They offer to clean and seal your drive and of course re sand it.

They clean it. They paint it with thompsons waterseal and then they was all the sand onto the road outside your drive. They usually come back tuesday to reseal it but I am not to sure what tuesday they come back as they have not made it yet.

oh and if you were daft enough to trust them and part with the money early on trust :( you might never find out what tuesday!

This was in dublin, but they had a Donegal reg. So they were from the Republic.

No sealing involved, just cleaning, so it was done very quickly. I wanted it done, but all the stuff they cleaned off the drive ended up on the road.

    Should I seal it myself?

They also talked about putting two layers of something on it, but I wasn't there until the end, so I don't know what they were doing. There was weedkiller involved.

Nobody would be looking at this two-year-old thread if I didn't bring it back to life.

Stop ranting on? Nah, I think I'll continue.

By the way, the fact that weed-killer was sprayed on the cobble (and everywhere else), can I assume that my hedge might suffer?

Is there a particular sand you can get that keeps down weeds?

Know this is an old thread, but here goes....

I have the front driveway ( well, the whole front of the house) in cobblelock. Its moss and weeds galore now.
Would like to do this myself...
I can get a washer device from Haven Hire but wondering if anyone has used a sealer after re-sanding??

    Thanks
