Hi, does anyone here know when The Fountain is getting its first showings in Ireland? Official release date is this Friday but i can't find listings for it anywhere. Been looking forward to this for a year and i can't wait much longer, dagnabbit! For anyone not clued in, its the third feature-length project of Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem For A Dream). If i may post a link to the trailer for those interested... Go to http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thefountain/hd/ (if not, edit it out!)and click on the 480p button on the left. Trust me, this is more than big enough! You need quicktime player for it... Any info on when it will see our screens would be greatly appreciated!

    How odd.
Cannot wait for this film. Think Aronofsky is a genius of the highest order and have been waiting for this for months. Had been planning my Friday around a visit to this.
But as you say no where seems to be showing it. Cineworld and IFI seem like the obvious candidates, but it isnt timetabled for Friday.
Seriously, someone doesn't want us Irish to see this.

The Irish film censor says it's out on March 9th.

I've seen it. Really good, thought provoking film.

It's excellent but it's going to split opinions. Those who like it (and I count myself in that) will love it, those who hate it won't understand why some people love it.

I saw it in Florida last year. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again, disapointed it won't be until March.

Thats infuriating. Two months more? This country really does seem like its treated like an after thought a lot of the time.

It didn't perform well in the US, so it's getting a small release. The real pain in this is that we'll get prints that have already gone through a full run in the UK and will potentially have a bit of wear on them.

What the hell is the delay?! The Fountain opens in the UK on Friday.

Girlfriend showed me a review of it in one of her "girlie" magazines (not the good kind with "nudie wimmins".. but the kind with real-life problems and advice columns like "Help me Julie... my moustache has swallowed my pet Labrador whole!" :D)

What a hilarious review... they gave it * / ***** (1 / 5) and said something along the lines of "We have no idea what this film with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz was about.. but it was an absolute bore!". They went on to give "Little Man" a whole-hearted *** / ***** (3/5). Needless to say, any credibility the reviewer had went out the window with that rating.

I am, for one, looking forward to the film. Not a huge Aronofsky sky but i must say it looks damn intriguing and original.

Saw the trailer on Sky News yesterday.... looks interesting. I'll definitely go and see it.

LOL @ basquille reading girlie mags...... 3/5 for little man - jesus.

The same "Little Man" that's done so well at the Razzies? Sweet Jebus. Nominate them for the "Worst Film Critic" thread on the Films forum basquille.

I've also been looking forward to this for an age having both of his previous works on DVD and both watched a number of times. I know it's got the mixed reviews but I'm hoping to be in the wow-ed camp.

I just went on a swearing rampage... March 9th? I might die waiting! Wonder if Ryanair still has that glitch on their site that actually gives you return flights for 2c to london! I've been waiting a year for this. Watched the trailer more times than i care to remember and the teaser trailer before that! Empire gave it a good review, though they stayed as much on the fence as possible, having, you know, slated Pi and Requiem For A Dream and then having to u-turn. This is likely to be another that is appreciated a lot more on the special edition DVD with extras! Mmmm... extras!

Damnit, now i can't wait for that either...

This film is, in many ways, a lot less accessable than even Pi. I don't think a stacked DVD will do it any favours, since it's such an ambivalent story in the first place. The last thing I want is to have somebody tell me how all of the effects were achieved or what Aronofsky's opinions on what happened are. You'll see once it comes out, no two people take the same thing from it.

Weird - the Cineworld website says here that it's out this Friday, but if you go into the schedule for that day there's no sign of it. Got my hopes up there for a minute.

Yeah i know... I was offered a pirate a while back, but i told em where to go on principal, because i'd much rather see it properly the first time! Wouldn't buy bootlegs anyway...

    Some clarification from The Ticket:

    Michael Dwyer

Although Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain opens in Britain today, a decision has yet to be made on whether or not it will get an Irish release.

"The competition is very strong at the moment with so many films on release," according to Sharon McGarry, manager of 20th Century Fox in Ireland. "We will wait and see how it fares in the UK before making a decision on opening it here."

Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz play multiple roles in The Fountain, which is set across three eras - in 1500, 2000 and 2500 - and follows a quest for the Tree of Life, as noted in an opening quote from Genesis. Ellen Burstyn co-stars in the film, which fared disappointingly in the US, where it made just over $10 million.
So we mightn't get it at all, but we'll still get Hollywood Action Movie #1324 and RomCom #241212312? ARGH! *bangs head against wall and weeps* We get 'Tokyo Drift' but not...

Serious potential for depression here. Once more FOX threaten my happiness...

Yeah heard that nonsense about no release date. I really do want to see this on a cinema screen. Ill be very disapointed if I have to resort to importing the DVD. Films like this admittedly are made for the big screen.
Id be happy with a club release tbh.

I'd be very surprised if even the IFI didn't show it... I might e-mail Fox about it i think, direct them to this page and show them that there ARE people who want this movie to be shown here. I personally can vouch for 12 of my friends who want to see it, i'm sure a lot of you can do likewise. All it needs is a good WELL PUBLICISED opening and word of mouth will do the rest once it gets going. To quote someone i know in the States "It bombed here because most americans are too dumb for this kinda movie."

Let us be clear, if the movie is not released here we will not be happy! Even if they did a week in the IFI to see how it goes...
