D-Day beaches trip

Hi, I'm trying to organise a 3 day trip for my Dad and I to the Normandy beaches. First of all, I'm not sure where to fly to. I have found flights with Ryanair for €150 return to Nantes, is that too far away from where I want to go. Second, can anyone give me recommendations of how to plan the few days; what tours to do, what are 'must see' sites. There's so many places I want to visit, I'm not sure how to go around it.

Has anyone done a trip similar to this before, and if so, could you give me some advice?

    Thanks

Nantes is completely the wrong place to fly to. Better off flying to Beauvais and getting the train.

Or actually it is cheaper and alot closer to fly to Paris and then get the train/drive up

EDIT: /\Yeh I see that now, Beauvais is cheaper and alot closer. Now to find out whether itd be cheaper to hire a car and drive up, or get a train and hire a car up there. And find out if it's possible to organise tours the week after next!

That is a bloody brilliant idea. Do u have any links to sites relating such trips to post up or are you doing it all yerself?

There are absolutely loads of companies doing trips, I've sent off about 8 emails today enquiring. I think now that we'll stay in Bayeaux is it's central and has a train station, spend one day on a guided tour of the beaches (American Sector), another day in museums, and the last day just driving around and stopping wherever, maybe go to the Anglo-Canadian sector.

It's so confusing though, there's so many places to see, I haven't even started looking into accomodation, car rental etc. I'll wait to hear back from the tour operators before doing much more.

Here's a link to a list of tour operators:

Loads of the sites are invalid links or just absolutely woeful and give no option of accessing any information however. I'm pretty sure I'm booking flights with Ryanair to Paris (Beauvais) and then getting the train to Bayeaux or hiring a car at the airport.

Hopefully it all works out, its very short notice though

It might be worth looking into driving.

Irish ferries go to Cherbourg and that not far from the Normandy landing sites.

Two years ago myself and some friend got the ferry to Cherbourg and were driving to Paris, we came across Omaha beach on the way. It was well signposted from the motorway.
