hi. has anyone been to a therapist called gerard butcher in capel street? If so can you tell me how much he charges per hour and how many sessions in general are needed?
I hear his waiting list is long but if he is as good as people say he is then its worth it.
My specific problem is anxiety/panic attacks over last few months have made my life hell.
I want to get to the root of what is causing them asap.
    thanks in advance

    Hi Carol

I dont attend him however my gp has referred me to one, via a psychiatrist for exactly that = panic attacks/anxiety attacks that have stopped me in my tracks.

The only thing i will say (and i could be totally wrong so hopefully someone who already attends a therapist could put me straight) - is the reason she recomended cognitive behavioural therapy and not counselling is because i already know why i take mine and she said these therapists do not delve through your past or analyse you they just change your way of thinking slightly to be less negative. I didnt want counselling or dragging up the past.

Again i could be wrong as i know nothing about CBT. But if my doctor has informed me properly then i am not sure if they will be able to get to the bottom of why they are occuring.

i hope i am not misleading you here just going by what my doctor told me?
I will be interested in peoples replies also.

If you want to get to the root of your problems then you need a psychotherapist. A CBT specialist wont really delve into your past but they will try and use certain techniques and stratagies to help you deal with your problems. If you have developed anxiety and panic attacks out of the blue then I would also suggest you look online for information on Hypoglycemia and its link to anxiety and panic attacks. Even if you dont have hypoglycemia, following a hypoglycemic diet can be very beneficial for your state of mind and help reduce your panic and anxiety.

Have you tried EFT (emotional freedom technique)? Do a google on it. I've read a lot about it and am going to get a close friend of mine to try it for her anxiety, fears, phobias...

It has given amazing results. check the forums on it

    Hi,

i have had anxiety for years and it took me along time to find out that it was actually anxiety, as i was afraid of speaking and about it incase people thought i was crazy.

Lately i have being getting the back pains the tightness on the head the cold sweats, heart palps etc.My doctor has subscribed me xanex and i have had it for two weeks, it has eased the symtoms but not eliminated them.

Is there any natural remedies to get rid of these feelings?

Thanks for you help in adavance.
