    They are
    CAFQKNBH CA2VOD4T CA2RWT2R CAYVC1IJ CAOVQHOR CAL82DP7
C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Desktop Type of File: File Size: 0 bytes
Not hidden/read only or anything like that
6 of these files in total
Please help, I haven't a clue what to do with them!

When I try to delete I get:
Cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk

    Any ideas?

This can sometimes be caused by an invalid file name. For instance you could have inadvertently hit the space bar when saving the file giving a asdfg .doc (for example) ending.

I too had this problem with a number of files that appeared on my desktop after saving microsoft word document attachments from an e-mail I received.

I was finally able to delete the files concerned using the free utility "DelInvFile" (Delete Invalid Filename).

You can download it from here

Another free programme you may wish to consider is CCleaner, which should id your prob, as well as clean out unused registry entries, temp files, prefetch data, and does a better job than Windows disc cleanup app www.ccleaner.com.
