    All,
Have any of you had any experience in working in a very small company, small as in I am looking at a move to a small company, will be software dev manager, senior developer and developer/support guy.

The manger is the same age as myself, seems like a sound guy, but would have more experiene in the specific area of work than I would.

He will be handling DB design and management and I will be looking doing the coding and leading the junior developer as well as doing some of the requirements and design and aiding in support IF required.

I am very unsure of what working in this environment would be like, anyone been in a similar setup?

    Thanks

I'm in a kinda' similar setup.

I came from an IT department that had over 250 people, supporting 5000+ users to a small public sector organisation with 3 people in the IT dept, supporting 45 users.

I have never been happier, I share an office with the IT manager, who comes from a similar background to myself. I was hired to do Oracle/web development. Today I was under a table, on my knees in front of a bunch of women troubleshooting a loose cable, taking an inordinate amount of abuse. I love it. :D

It is a completely different environment and does take some getting used to, but it can be very rewarding. I think the main thing to remember is that in a small organisation you can make a difference, you are no longer a cog in a machine, you are the machine.

same buzz for myself. doing all IT stuff and supporting 120 people. large percentage are work from home so loadsa VPN setup and site work (mileage :) )

im only out of college since may and im dealing with tenders, managing the implementation of VOIP, email system migration from exchange to notesand IT training would be the more interesting parts of my job at the minute.

the beauty of the small to medium enterprise is that you get broader experience then working for the likes of IBM where ur doing the same thing everyday. ive been working here for 7months now and im doing interesting stuff as well as the mind numbing dog work. its nicely balanced
