I'm going to new zealand on a working holiday for 6 months to a year, i've heard a lot of people buy a cheap car over there as they're supposedly pretty slack on insurance etc. but i was wondering do they recognise regular irish driving license? or do i need something else? i'm flying out on saturday so any information is appreciated...thanks!!:)

A Full licence? Then yes they do. A green back provisional no they do not.

    Insurance:
Injury to persons is covered by the road tax.
Damage to property requires third party insurance. You don't need it to drive but if you total some guys BMW they can sue your ass back to Ireland.

No, They are not considered adequate and unless you are travelling to a non english speaking country outside the EU they are pretty much useless and a waste of money.
