I've been looking around Dublin for ages for a Wii and didnt find one, anyway I'm over in Finland at the moment, and went shopping last night, only to find a shelf full of Wii's! So give it a week or 2 an there should be more in Ireland.

I bought one in Game, then while hunting for a numchuck
I found a much better deal in gamestop. same price but €100 worth of vouchers and membership of some online club for 3 months and it was in stock

Also bought warioware in gamestop for 45 off the shelf no loyality where most placves are selling for 60

I got mine in Smyths toys in Tallaght yesterday morning, they were selling off the units that people had booked but never collected :)

got mine in smyths blanch last week. I have been trying to get 1 for weeks now with no success. hmv blanch have a waiting list of about 60 people so there is no chance there, virgin in dundrum dont know when they will be getting them, game in dundrum just say call every day you can, they get them in the deliveries but do not know untill they open the boxs and see what they get. argos dundrum say they have none ordered on their system and do not know when they will be coming in. looked up on amazon and the resellers using them seem to be charging about 100 sterling more then the retail price, bloody thieves.
best thing to do is to either call into somewheere every day on your lunch break or on the way to and from work and pray that you are lucky to get one. and sign up to smyths text service and try to be the first one there in case they have any, its handy the way they text you.

interesting stuff - it's still very difficult to pick up a wii in ireland but i was in an electronics store in Italy over the weekend and they had approx 30 wii's on a pallet in the shop floor...

i've never had any problems getting my hands on a wii anyday i've tried looking for them in dublin city. you people just dont know how to get what you want. for shame.

I really thought that people were taking the p*** saying wii's were available, just to get people running around for nothing.

I got one today for myself at game in blanchardstown, thanks for the advice about going in and asking because over the phone they say nothing.
Btw he said they got a good few in this time.

I was just in Smyths on the fonthill road and the guy there said they're hoping to get some in at some stage over the next 2 weeks:(

I just got a text from Smyths in Carrickmines and they will have Wii's in stock on Friday. I would pressume that this will be the same for other Smyths stores.

With regards to the availibility of Wii's, when should we expect them to be quite freely available without this notion of "went to Smyth's / Argos / Game / Gamestop, they had none!". OK, maybe not that rare but surely Nintendo will remedy this situation in the coming weeks.

Or is it a simply a case of whenever the never-ending demand ceases?

this is crazy, i never expected the shortage of consoles to last this long.

I think that's the case honestly. I mean the shops do seem to be getting them in on a fairly regular basis, but they sell out almost right away!

Was in smyth's Tallaght yesterday, and they had them but were only fulfilling pre-orders. Not selling them otherwise.

Checked the stock in a few argos stores around dulin this morning, but they didnt have any.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

In case anyone is interested, I was in Smyths Liffey Valley earlier, and they had a whole bunch (on shelves behind the counter). They had signs up in the store saying they had some in stock, so would seem they're selling to general public.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 243 ✭✭Blinder

Passsed there today and all, but figured all smyth's would be the same ( only Wii's for pre-orders)
So, pre-ordered one on Smyth's in Tallaght today, so will have to wait for that.

either we are being excluded from larger wii shipments, or there is a huge shortage, and really bad production times..

either way, they are certainly increasing demand.

Guys, dont worry about it , you're not missing much. Wait until a few proper games come out. Havnt used mine since the day i got it, and am sorry I didnt get 360 instead, and waited until later in the year for a Wii.

I was wondering is the drip-drip supply shortage a deliberate ploy by Nintendo to :
    1. Stimulate desire and hype for the machine through its very scarcity
    2. Avoid having too many machines in peoples hand without quality software support in case negative word of mouth would gather too much momentum.

Chances are, than in 4-6 months when there are a few good games on the shelves, shops will be stacked full of the consoles and offering deals/bundles as the real push to succeed in the consoles war post PS3 becomes intense.

I think it could be a very canny strategy from Nintendo.

I think that we could see some of the big hitting Nintendo titles launch here around the same time as the PS3 launch, or am I just an ickle bit cynical? They launched 2 days after the PS3 in the states, is it possible we'll get Mario or Metroid in around the time of the PS3 European launch?
