Anyone know of good places to buy hand tools (sockets, spanners etc.) in the Dublin or Leinster area. Somewhere like McQuillan tools in Blanchardstown. That is a good shop but seems dear and it's always good to know of alternatives.

    Thanks

Are you after tools for working on cars or for general DIY (I would regard McQuillans as a place ofr general DIY stuff) ?

If you're after car tools, I would recommend Southside Motor Factors (Kylemore Rd?) or Halfords, who do a good range of car-related stuff (I recently bought a Halford own-brand low-range torque wrench....and it's quality is excellent!)

As regards tools.....I usually stick to the Teng Tool range.

    Hope this helps

I used to always buy from the Snap-On van, it called to the garage every week or so. Great tools, but very expensive. I use the ratcheting screwdriver everyday and I've had it for nearly 15 years! Most of my other tools are in the shed, but all in perfect nick.

    Hi,

Yea it can some times be a pain to find reasonable quality tools at a decent price...

MC-Quillans in blanch can be ok, i've found the odd bargin in there... for example i got a rail of 1/2 drive impact sockets in there ( 10mm -> 21mm ) for about €10, they come in ferce handy with the 1/2 breaker bar ;) , also as they are impact sockets there's very little chance they'll ever get damaged.. I also got a mini rail of inverted torques head sockets for working on my BMW for about €7 there, which was good as these are kinda rare.

Halfords can be ok for some of the specialist automotive tools, got a nice fork type ball joint spliter for about €5 last summer..

I've been very tempted to order online from these guys, http://www.machinemart.co.uk/ i wish i lived near one, their prices look quite good... i checked and they do ship to ireland

Another vote for both Southside motor factors and Teng tools.

Snap-on would certainly be overkill for DIY stuff. I too bought a lot of it years back but that had a lot to do with them letting you buy stuff on the drip. And also, if I'm to be honest, brand snobbery in the workshop. The lifetime guarantee was handy though when working in the heavy plant game, but I think Teng have a lifetime warranty too.
