Problem with Sky+ box

    Hi,

Twice in two days I've lost my Sky+ planner and live pause. I rang Sky on the number provided in the error message and they talked me through resetting it although all previous recordings and settings were lost. The guy I spoke to at Sky said if it happens again I will probably need a service call or even a replacement box (which he said I'd have to pay for myself). Has anyone had a similiar problem or any suggestions how to solve it! I presume it will be expensive to have Sky out for a service call and I've no idea how much they charge for a replacement box. BTW, I don't think it's anything to do with the stormy weather cos I didn't lose reception at all, just the Sky+ features.
    Thanks

    Are there any error messages?

If it says "SYSTEM FAULT" and none of the PVR functions are working, chances are it could be a dead hard disk. There are plenty of guides on the internet showing you how to install a new (bigger) hard disk - no doubt much cheaper than Sky will be.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I get an error message saying System Fault. Do you have any links to buy a new hard disk (in Dublin) and installation instructions? I have been looking around the internet but it's all a bit double Dutch to me!! Thanks for your help

Here's a link . Many more if you do a Google on "sky + upgrade"

I think the key thing is to open up your sky plus box first and see what kind of disk is in there. Then try to buy a new one as close as possible to the existing one (just bigger - 250GB max) ie same manufacturer, same series or range from that manufacturer if possible, same rpm (usually 5400 rpm AFAICR). That makes it more likely to work problem-free. Then do some research on line and buy one - doesn't have to be in Dublin.

You can get those Torx drivers in Maplins in town.

FYI I got a 250GB Seagate Series DB35 from www.hardwareversand.de for €93.89 delivered. I only used those guys because they were the only place in Europe showing up when I did a Google search on the part number of the drive
