I am heading to Murrayfield in March - can anyone answer the following questions?

    1. can you actually see anything from the top of the upper stands or is it really far away? where are the best seats?

    2. what are the best pubs for a pre-match pint?

    3. what's the best way to get to the stadium on match day?

any other information you might have?

    thanks

Theres a few buses that go from city centre to Murrayfield. Edinburgh is quite small so it shouldn't be too much travel.

I've been to Murryfield twice and on both occasions I've been on the top tier, both near the corner of the South/West stands (I think), the side where the running track is and I had a perfect view though you up HIGH.

If you're staying in the city - walk to the grounds

I did day trips so I'm sure of pubs in the area.

I've attached 2 pics, one from the lower tier and one from the top, these might give you some idea of the views, bottom line is that you can see from anywhere.

View is not bad, but you can seem very far away if you are in the southern Stand. It's also one of the coldest stadiums I've ever been in, any time of year.

Pubs for pints before, well there are loads in the City, depends on where you are staying. Rose Street and the Grassmarket area are the temple bar type places, but the pubs can be a bit minging there.

You can easily get a taxi to the grounds if you like, but if you do get one from the City Centre ask them to take you there via the West Approach road, as that's the quickest way on match day if there is a big crowd going (I'm assuming you're going for the Ireland game).

the 12 or the 26 (very frequent) from the City Centre (Princes Street is the main thoroughfare) will get you there. The Bus drivers are decent and very professional, so if you ask them to tell you the nearest stop to Murrayfield, they will. The fare is £1.

Thanks everyone for the info. Really looking forward to it. Only problem is that I will be with a crowd of Scots - so we better win!

Going to murrayfield as well, Id say they'll be more Irish than the scots at it . Any hew im doing a day jobby and going over and back the same day. However I have to collect my ticket at murrayfield 2hrs before the kickoff. Flight arrives at 10.30, will I have enough time to get from A to B?

Get the Airport Bus, £5 return or £3.30 single. It goes by (and stops) near Murrayfield, generally the driver will announce it. When going back, bear in mind that traffic will be slowed considerably from the number of people coming from the Stadium, so the buses will be slowed.

Bear that in mind for your flight back - it may be worthwhile leaving the game a few minutes early to avoid the crowd and catch a bus or Taxi outside.

not worried about the crowd, Dave, only the fact that I'll have to buy the pints if we lose...! Had the best laugh at Ireland v Scotland when I ended up next to these 2 boring D4 Barbour types complaining about the number of Scots sitting in "IRFU seats".........then 2 minutes before kick-off, about 50 Scots in kilts and Jimmy hats arrived and sat on all sides of them. Class!
