I bought the Airis T920EF on pixmania.com a week ago, cost about 250 euro delivered. Fantastic maps of Ireland, with all streets, townlands, villages etc. Great unit, with car charger and in car holder included.

512MB SD card included. Highly recommend this unit.

    Regards

    XDA

XDA: What about revisions to, new versions of, maps - are these easily obtained?

If you dont want/need a pda then the best unit for a car is the Toomtom One V2 with Europe map.

I was in halfords Liffey valley yeterday and got a excellent sales guy who was very blatant about the sat nav's.

Route 66 - "****e - When they come back faulty we put a hammer through them and bin them"

    Navman - "poor"

Garmin - 510 - good price but bulky.

Garmin 310 best of the lot Tom-Tom also V good.

and quote - "don't be arsed with anything other than Garmin or Tom Tom"

So armed with tis info - I'm buying through the web. Cheapest good garmin is the 310 and cheapest site I can find is www.handtec.co.uk The barmin 310 with euro maps is £189 + vat (halfords = €499) Garmin 300 is £149 + VAT (halfords = €429) - if you can buy through a vat registered company vat is excluded.

I would recommend the TomTom One V2 with Europe maps.

On the subject of Halfords , their supposed GPS specialist in the Coolock store doed not have a clue , I hve experience of quite a few systems and spent 25 minutes while this chap tried his best to sell me the most expensive unit in the shop . He even told me that the unit I use does Not have any maps of Ireland on it .When I told him he was wron he called me an arsehole and walked off , The matter has been passed to Halfords in the UK , It was a nice co-incidence that I met with one of their upper management about two weeks later and passed this gem on to him.

hi there,im new to posting on this site.i have just bought a garmin 310delux from handtec and i have to say the service is great and it got to me in 2 days, saved about 150euro,only thing is its not what i expected.firstly i drive a taxi and there being about 1000 pubs in dublin and hotels on every corner ,i decided to get satnav.i tried it last night and i was shocked to see that no matter what pub i typed in the same message came up, no matches found. same with hotels, schools, most hospitals including temple st.when i type in local shops it directs me to county down?same with most pubs, local police stations? wait for this police service of northern ireland... it will take me to houses ok.but most people know where they live.oh have i just wasted good money?

Ovrin , which version of maps are loaded on it and wher are you based ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 ovrin

hi sharkman, the uk/ireland preloaded detailed maps. im based in blanchardstown, dublin.is this the norm with sat navs,if i bought it in ireland would it be any different, not even an industrial est.its practically useless to me.

You need to use an additional piece of S/W on the disc called "POILoader" .

This page should explain all , If not Shout out !

hi sharkman, sorry about delay in getting back, was out working.ive done what u said.but to no avail.found the site, done what it said,i think the problem is with transferring the info from my pc to my sat nav unit. im sure this is easy if youve done it before its just so much bloody hassle for something that should have been done at the factory or at least comes with proper instructions..........any body out there that has had similar problem.thanks

I don't know about the nuvi range but my Garmin has to store any additional maps/ poi/ waypoints/ tracks to the SD card. They can be picked up for very cheap now from the likes of ebay.
