    Hi All,
I have had some pretty steep phone bills over the last few years, say around 230 euro per two months. I have wanted to find an alternative way of communication but havnt considered anything until I heard about Blueface. It seems reasonable enough and I like the voip system except for the fact of having to start up my laptop to make calls. With Blueface I don't get charged line rentals, only for calls I make. I generally call mobiles or local numbers and on occasion I call overseas, all of this can be done on Blueface.
I guess I'm wondering has anyone any opinions to share?

Ummm I'm pretty sure you won't have to start your laptop to use it. You just need something like this. You can connect your analogue phone to your router/modem, and make and receive calls as normal. One of my neighbours has it and says its great, but I've never used it myself.

Blueface requires some sort of broadband to use it. If you have cable or decent wireless, you don't need to pay line rental, just the broadband cost for cable/wireless. If your only method of getting broadband is via your telephone line, you will still have to pay the line rental to enable the broadband. Even with paying line rental, there may be savings using Blueface for calls - not so much to mobiles, but on local and overseas.

You can use a softphone on your laptop to make calls (or to use the trail account), but the hardware option will give much better quality.

That certainly is food for thought, I have already got NTL broadband so I could get away without the line rental. Interesting that you say the mobile charges are similiar as they are the most numerous of all calls. I would be interested if people find a two monthly phone bill of 230 euro as expensive as I might or am I living in the past? There are only two adults in the house, myself and my wife.

I'm on blueface. When we were with Eircom we could be paying them anywhere upto about €80 a month. Now with Blueface I only pat €10 per month. That gives me 300 minutes of national landline and some international calls. I then top up by about €10 or €20 a month for mobile calls. Still works out much, much cheaper.

A friend of mine who has NTL Broadband, signed up with Blueface, got rid of his landline, and hasn't looked back. As he said, even if the call charges were the same he was saving what he was paying in line-rental.

You may find that it might be cheaper to make all your calls to mobile numbers from your mobile, depending on what rates you can get.

I have the NTL broadband, and chucked the landline for blueface about 18 months ago and no looking back.

Freedom Basic is grand for me, 300 minutes a month is about what i do.

I've had Blueface with NTL for nearly 10 months. I wouldn't consider getting an Eircon line again. I'm not a heavy user but for me it is perfect.

Same here. And they have the best customer service in the country. I have it for over 12 months. Only minor teething problems. Go with them - you won't regret it.:)

ive been with blueface & NTL about 2 years now, i bought an unlocked linksys wireless router with built in ata for 150e from blueface and ive run 4pcs a lap top and 2 phone lines off it, pay as u go option. the quality is superb and u must be mad not to do it for the savings :D
with the extra features its actually better and way more versatile than a land line
voip is not widespread because its not packaged properly for the mainstream but it is more than worthy competator for a land line imho
