Supposedly this guitar has some new crazy ass wood combination that took John through a few different prototypes. It's got an alder body, with a maple top, a mahogany tone block, and a reinforced mahogany neck. Compare that with the basswood bodies on his previous sig model. It comes in both Flamed Maple and Quilt Maple tops, and there's 4 colours, Walnut, Ruby, Black and Blue bursts.

I've been waiting to see this baby in a 7 String for a long time now, and it looks gorgeous!

Depending on the price, I might just say to hell with the 8 string, Apex, or whatever else and get a Quilt Top JP7 in Ruby Burst this year. Phenominal! :D

I dont know much about MM guitars, but Rich Harris has some pretty bad things to say about the quality of the brand lately. Not that his opinion os any more relevant than anyone else's but he does know a good guitar when he sees one, if youre interested i'll dig up some quotes.

Go for it, but I've played quite a few Music Man instruments, including a Petrucci sig and I have to say, they're some of the best guitars I've played. I also know quite a few people with Petrucci sigs, and they love them.

But yeah, throw up some quotes. ;)

The new sig is probably going to be quite expensive, so I doubt I'm going to be running out buying it any time soon, and I can wait for reviews.

I'll throw up some tomorrow, but the gist of it was his opinion was that the quality was slipping every year. Its on Jemsite somewhere, or maybe his own page. He actually sells a small amount of musicman guitars, and covers the namm show for some ernie ball fan-sites or something (he's not just an Ibanez man)

Wow. That's actually real nice. 7 strings would just confuse me though!

Of course it's really nice! I've got impecible taste in guitars. :D

7 Strings aren't confusing though, it's just another string. But if you're really aversed to an extra string, then check out the guitar next to it:

Might be more to your taste. ;)

So that quote from Rich Harris went like
the EBMM's continue to drop in quality in all the important areas [to me]. Fret finishing is at an all time low
Obviously, its just an opinion, not gospel or anything, but i was looking at his Namm folder, and he took a bunch of EBMM pics, so I presume he picked up the 2007 models and had a good gander at the build quality.

As for the petrucci sig, (from those pics) thats a pretty crappy top. The flame and quilt both look pretty poor.

Eh, didn't you say when you came back from Japan that you played the Petrucci 7 string and that it wasn't nice to play?

No, I said I tried out the Petrucci 7 and the J Custom back to back and thought the J Custom was best, so I bought that one. It was also less than half the price they were asking for the JP7. The Petrucci has always been on the cards, it's a great instrument.

the new sig doesnt touch the old one. I hate the way they lost the contours

Yeah, supposedly the 'Scoop' was lost because of the figured tops. I do like the new one though.

I must say, I didn't like the advance pictures a while back, but I quite like that.

I'll agree with you there, looks so much better in the flesh, if you will.

I could see myself getting one of the old models in this colour, that is one sexy finish IMO.

Oooh, haven't seen that orange before. It'd have to be CAR or green-purple flick for me though.

I've a serious hard-on for the Pearl Redbusrt (Older model) or the Rubyburst (New model) myself.

I cant link it directly, but theres some great pics of the orange colour on this page

Desert Gold, innit? Definetly some nice ones there.

I love the Teal Pearl ones aswell.

Well, whatever your favourite colour is, they do have lovely paintjobs they?. Like custom cars or something, absolute top quality stuff, looks lovely.

I can definitely see myself picking up one of those petrucci's on ebay if J-Custom offerings on ishi are slim pickings this year..

Well, if you're interested, there's a Petrucci with all options up on the U Box at the moment.

Don't know if you're into the Mystic Dream finish (Changes from Green to Purple), but if you are, worth looking at. ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,706 ✭✭✭Voodu Child

Never actually search the ubox for anything but ibanez, i probably miss tonnes of nice stuff.

That price on the u-box is too high for me. Theres a guy on ebay sells them for about 700sterling a lot. I only spotted him because i search for mesa the odd time and he sells triaxis's a lot too.

Really? Can you give me the Id of this seller? Might add him to my favourites, and see what shows up. Petrucci's are expensive instruments though, so if you can get one for £700, that's an awesome price.

I do dread finding out how much the new model will cost.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,706 ✭✭✭Voodu Child

Yeah, sure, i'll PM it to you.

I'll PM you another seller id, if you have too much time on your hands you can see if you spot anything funny ;)

    Shoot. ;)

I wonder what this funny stuff might be. :o

Well, the funny stuff is just have a look at what one guy buys, and the other guy sells. Good example of how some people make a living (or a subsidy) on ebay.

I'm waiting to get a quote on one of these babies now. Supposedly it'd take 6-7 months to build, so even if I order one now, I'd have some wait on my hands.

What, one of the new petruccis? Are they not production models?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Well, I was talking to some peeps on the EBMM forums, and supposedly the guitars haven't hit production yet.

But do you need to 'order' the guitar? Or is it something that shops will just stock anyway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Well, they come with a variety of options, so depending on piezos, quilt or flame, colour, and such it's something I may need to order, because while shops will stock them, they mightn't stock them with the options I want.

    I see....well, keep us informed.

On the subject of petrucci models, I like this one too. It had the picasso type abstract picture, which was kind of his 'trademark' back in the olden days, but over a nice maple top.

Not a pretty guitar, but different.

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll get some news about it sooner or later.

I love those old Ibanez Petrucci models, but they can fetch some price on ebay. I always thought they were cool as well though, so it's definetly different, but I wouldn't call it ugly.

You can even get Picasso decal kits, and it would be damn cool to spruce up an old plain Ibanez with one.

    Holy bejebus!

Got some better pics of the maple tops, they look very fine indeed:

Are you having a laugh Karl? The black quilted one is the only one that i'd class as AAA.

Im still willing to accept that its the photos, or the colours used, but from what ive seen, they are pretty lousy tops for a big bucks guitar..:(

No, I'm not having a laugh. There's a lot of shine on the guitars themselves, but I still think they look very nice indeed.

Aye, i'll accept its the photos, or the shine, or whatever. I'll keep an open mind til i see more photos.
