There are certain programmes that are blocked because of rights issues in Ireland. It's mostly imported US shows.

The EPG Info makes no mention of the film not being available to ROI, though maybe there was no room to put it in.

From this, I presume there must be some movies they haven't got rights clearance for either.

I wonder why they block it on Sky and not cable...

I remember checking the info on this film on the english epg and it stated clearly "NOT AVAILABLE IN ROI."

They get the cable signal from the Divis tower in the North. Its not blocked at that source.

Warner Brothers are obviously anal about who sees their movies on tv

The problem is that RTÉ most likely still holds the rights to screen the film in the Republic. And C4 probably only payed for UK screening rights.

As others have noticed, why do they care so much about rights issues now it's on Sky when hundreds of thousands of people in this country have been getting unaltered Channel 4 relayed from the North for years on cable and MMDS?

I'd see reasons for them to do this if say RTÉ did actually go FTA on satellite (assuming they had the money), as they often get rights to show US shows before the UK channels, but not the other way round O_o

Because the technology doesn't exist for it to be blocked on the relays- and as it is a feature on satellite- in their contract with warners- they ask for it to be blocked.

Channel 4 available on sky digital is just spin when in about 18 months channel 4, E4, more4 will be fta on digital satellite, as I have a UK freesat card I have channel4, five, fiveus, five life, sky3 we have have full coverage execept e4 which is bad but more4 is the channel I like to have even instead of channel4, If you want the full uk Mainstream tv line up on sky digital get a uk freesat card which costs from €30 which has lasted from about 3 years so far all for a once off fee

The easiest and 100% legitmate method is send £21 to Sky with a UK postcode (inc. N.I.) return address. Foolproof.

This sounds like a great technology. Can I get it to block Big Brother. :)
