Agreed, an abomination. Have it destroyed.

I wouldn't mind, but there's plenty of great BC Rich bodies that they only offer as custom shop pieces.

For example, Steve Smyth of Nevermore's guitar:

    5.jpg

    Now that's sexy.

    Oh get off it tbh.

Compare the above "Thing" to the Kerry King V:

Not even a blind hamster buried in a ditch would say they're on the same level of ****.

Now, that V would be acceptable if it wasn't for that god awful widow headstock. It looks like the profile of an arse crack! Bring back the pointed head!

It's the tribal markings finish that puts me off. Just makes me think of bad tattoos.

I Kerry King heard you say that he'd stick a nail in your head. Then play a screaming solo.

Screaming solo? I don't think he knows how any more.

Steve Smyth's Ignitor is a beauty alright, but that critter at the top is hideous...

I disagree. While it's not my cup of tea, you'd have to go a long way to out-ugly the Warlock and the Bich.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Ah, come on. Are you actually saying that this is worse:

Yes. Looks like Godzilla took a chomp out of it, or they ran out of wood halfway through and left it horribly unfinished.
The top one, while garish and metally, at least has a fully-designed form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

The Bich is hideous, as is the Draco, but the Warlock's a damn fine lookin' instrument.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

I refrain from comment on the draco........As for that guy from nevermores guitar that thing is teh sex, hows comes i have never seen that body shape before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

    It's custom only.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭punchdrunk

    well now,
when i seen the thread title i thought no man could possibly pick one B.C Rich as a standout visual eyesore from the vast sea of wretched pointy things to be unleashed from the B.C factory doors uppon the masses.
a standard bearer of horrendous router control,of wreckless bandsaw action, the pearl harbour of guitar making if you will...but it appears I was sorely mistaken! indeed this is among the ugliest guitars ever produced by anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

ahh that explains it. Damm you b.c. rich not al of us have limitless funds.

Meh, i dont think the original guitar is that ugly.

I think theres a flow to the lines that doesnt exist on a lot of other 'weird' guitars. Actually, I think there's a lot of 'normal' guitars that have proportions and outlines much uglier than this one.

The amount of highly talented luthiers that havent the slightest bit of artistic talent is a pity IMO.

I'll agree with you about 'Normal' guitars and luthiers without artistic talent, but I shall not concede to that guitar being not so ugly.

Not that i'd buy it of course, but it looks to me like the kind of guitar Batman would play. I'm not going to argue with Batman, he's pretty tough.

The luthier thing is a bit of a shame, ive seen tonnes of guitars with beautiful maple tops, and lovely craftmanship, but the shape of them just doesnt look right.

Not that theres such a thing as 'right' when it comes to looks, but theres a definite artistry in the contours and visual 'balance' of the classics, thats absent in an awful lot of guitars :(

Yeah, you'd have to be stupid to argue with Batman. But it does seem that a lot of the later model BC Rich's are designed solely with Batman in mind.

I'm not one to turn my nose at interesting shapes mind you. I'm the guy who likes the Parker Fly shape, and a lot of people out there consider it hideous.

I also dig a lot of the crazy guitars you can only get in Japan:

    Those just look fantastic. :D

Got anything more to add than vomit though?

I'm a tradionalist Karl. These new fangled designs are for the kids! I do like the Petrucci though. There is style in that guitar, but the BC Rich guitars IMO are garish(spelling).

Garish is definetly the word, but I don't nessicerally think that's a bad thing, after all, what are figured tops and elaborate inlays but garish? Wouldn't say that new designs are for kids either, but I suppose they probably said that about V's and Explorers back in the day.

I do like the Petrucci best myself though. ;)

not my cup of tea, the ugliest head stock i ever saw was on a guitar from the 80s a friend owned, looked like a golf club.

That sure is ugly KH, but have you seen this abomination?

That bass looks like it was (very poorly) home made or drawn up in MS Paint for the laugh! The Draco is a hideous waste of natural resources. If it turns out that some rare timber was used to make it it would cause even more offence! I think that the spikey bits all along the top could make for a very uncomfortable playing experience.

IMO the only BC Rich worth lookin at was the artist series with the hot asson it. The guitar was ugly as sin but the ass was quite hot!

5 string guitar? It's the Anti Hungus!

Christ, normally I love ignitors (Like Steve Symth's one) but that just looks freakin' ghastly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

i was just gonna say how that that guitar (igniter?) looks so much better when being played standing up.

Also the parker fly shape is cool........unless its a bass. have you seen those things, there hideous.

Maybe... like the telecaster... a thing of beauty can be defined by its sound not its shape. But then it's a BC Rich. And even with Kerry King wailin' out on one, you could still never describe the sound of a BC Rich as pretty.
And if I see one more 14 year old playing my chemical romance songs on ****ty BC Rich guitars Im gonna break it off their heads.
So I guess what I am saying is I agree. That guitar is an ugly son of a bitch.

BC Rich was never supposed to sound pretty though. It's the peeps like Slayer, Morbid Angel, Exodus, Cannibal Corpse, Death who record with said guitars. They're a niche brand really, and don't try to hide that fact, but they do really have a good sound. It's like with my USA made Stealth, that guitar just sounds amazing for Metal, it's got a really bright, immense sound. I couldn't wish for a better guitar for a good agressive sound.

I'm also a firm believer that the shape of a guitar can affect the sound. I mean, lets say you've got a Les Paul and a Flying V that are both made from the same wood and have the same pickups. Are they going to sound the same? Nah. :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 35,945 Mod ✭✭✭✭dr.bollocko

    That's true.
I'd actually like a BC Rich. Well I say that, I'd like a nice crunchy grimey metal guitar. My PAF les paul pickups give a nice metal sound, but nothing like a seymour duncan invader pickup style sound. The kind of sound that causes people's head to swivel 360 degrees and puke green bile.
Sort of a cheap version of a Zakk wylde Gibson, or les paul buzzsaw, maybe a Dean or ESP, just a nice does what it says on the tin nasty shouty distortion guitar.
Basically, if that guitar was a woman, it'd be a really hot bitchy loudmouth whore on lots and lots of drugs, who'll do really nasty stuff, maybe even butt stuff, but she'll never call you again.
