Gas Mask Vs Goggles/Full Face Mask

Would a gas mask pass for eye and face protection at a skirmish and do you think it'd be durable enough to last. Might be a bit awkward but adds a nice touch to the whole outfit. Any thoughts?

it would probably be ok, providing it has perplex lens and not glass like older models, but i would think it will be too clumsy and heavy, not to mention very warm during summer.
i'd still go for a full paintball mask, lighter and easier to breath

Anyone know a shop in Dublin that does paintball masks?

Paintball masks? I hope you're not thinking about using one of them for airsoft dave ;)

Paintball masks are okay for airsoft but they get in the way of the scopes IMO. a good set of glasses is the trick.

    www.ballymountfs.com do paintball masks.
Am sure ehobby do them too.

Hmmm. Personally I think a paintball mask is a bit much for airsoft. The only thing I'd be worried about is getting shot in the teeth with an high powered sniper. Apart from that it seems alright.

they do take from the look but i ment they are okay in terms of safety. I found the one i used last time out to be very comfortable though and the mesh ones dont fog up and are nice with the air being able to get in. i do agree that good glasses are the best option although on a cold wet day i'd rather a mask as face shots would sting like a c**t.

when you get shot does the bb have the power to break the skin? i wouldnt know ive only used a ****ty holiday pellet gun.it gives a sting at close range but only for a second.

Because of the usual engagement ranges, it stings for a second or so and that's it. Skin would only break if you were shot at a close range with a sniper rifle. Which I would say rarely happens. That's why I wouldnt bother with a full face mask. Still though, That's just my choice. I'll be eating my words if one of my teeth gets cracked/blown out :D

There has been a tooth broken and skin does get broken the odd time but nothing major. its only the close range shots that do the damage.

Even an AEG can break skin.
    Happened twice to me.

I've found my solution to mouth protection while still being able to aim down my AEG. Half-mask respirator. The one I've picked up is all black, silicon based and really comfortable. Breathing is no problem if you remove the filters (leaves no open areas anyway, filter ports have valve caps)

You can wear shooting glasses or goggles with it (its purposely build for use with separate eye protection) no fogging up at all as your respiration is isolated :) Getting your face right up close to the butt of the gun is easy, the silicon construction allows the respirator to collapse in with little pressure.

I can use my Camalback very quickly with it too. It has two straps, the lower one snaps open so you can lift the mask up a bit and access your mouth.

I dont think you need mouth protection...just keep your gob shut when hostiles are around.

Keeping your gob shut is all very well in principle but I'd probably be the one unlucky enough to get hit in the mouth :p Not saying people should always use mouth protection. If it came down to a choice between a paintball mask or no face guard I'd go with none, can't stand the look of masks.

you could always just get a gum shield or wear a scarf

Gum shields are a problem as they prevent you from talking properly. Scarves fog up your goggles if they're over your nose. I never thought of just putting it across my mouth. Hmmm. Might give this a go.

that inevitable shot to the nose is gonna hurt but ah well cant do much about it ;)

Well, it's not gonna kill you. That's the way I've been looking at it ;)

The only thing that worries me is breaking a tooth in half. As well, we all know how expensive dentists bills can be. About an AEG expensive.

if you get a proper fitting shield it doesnt restrict talking that much and sure its not like you do be saying all that much really.

They can run up to $50 a piece from safety supply companies. Check out AAA safety store on ebay. I got 3 for $16 each, new :) I got them in 5 days from placing the order, not bad at all.

P.S. If you're getting one make sure to use the sizing chart to get the right size.

they look like the masks on fighter pilots breathing equip. if you got a load out and a helmet with the big visor it'd look cool. no use for airsofting in ireland but would be great for photos or mil-sim events.
