Whats everyones view on Ben DrewAKA PLAN B

Personally I think he's a breath of fresh air, great lyrics, menacing style at times, seems intellegent in interviews althoug I saw him on Zane Lowes review of 2006, he couldnt string a sentence together, sat chewing on gum looking out of it.

Best thing to come out of the UK since Roots Manuva IMO....some people have said they find the album "difficult" to listen to; I found it kept drawing me back to listen to again and again....the guy certainly knows how to string his words together. Not bad on the old acoustic either...

He is depressing, sonically uninventive and after watching that MTV2 review, I suspect slightly retarded.

However he will go far, just like Example, because they are white rappers and MTV2 and the media will love them for that fact.

Theres no chance Plan B is touching the likes of Ty, Skinnyman, Klashnekoff, Kyza or Blak Twang, all of whom will sadly get half of his publicity.

Sonically uninventive? I think he can be accused of a lot, but not of that...

Ty gets plenty of publicity and what's the first thing he dishes up to the masses? A rehash of "Gypsy woman". Him and a lot of the rest you mentioned got and get plenty more exposure on UK radio than Plan B did....not that any of them get any airplay this side of the water...

he's a breath of fresh air for the rap/grime/hiphop scene, he has a different style that works well for him and plus he makes excellent use of the C**t word in most of his tracks and gets away with it ... nuff respect looking forward to seeing him at the village next week!!!

I haven't spent a lot of time in the UK so you are possibly right. However over here he was the flavour of the month for a while.MTV2 and Zane Lowe certainly seems to love him.

Either way, he is nowhere near as good as Blak Twang or Ty.

Could someone please tell me the appeal of this chap? He has an annoying voice, his songs are cliched, he bites lyrics all over the place. Marketed on the fact he plays guitar on his tracks despite his album having the most produced backing tracks ever. I think magazines like q and the nme are getting a touch of the 'eminem syndrome' with him. I wouldnt compare him with example though, examples actually quite talented.

I think his voice sounds quite cool.
Yeah me might not be rapping about anything particularly new or deep but thats not always what people are looking for.
The tune about his religious father is really good IMHO and so is Rakin the Dead.
Yeah the production is there, but is it so sacreligious for a hip-hop artist to have decent production? He makes a great sing(rap)-along in the car on the way to work album I reckons.
I did prefer "Time for Plan -B" but "Who needs actions when you've got words" is good too.

Yeah I take that back about Example, listened to more of his stuff on the net, he is pretty good.

Akala and Plan B are easily the two most overrated MC's in the UK.The 'rock' mags(not that NME and Q have the slightest clue about Rock either)will love them because of the use of guitars in their music but neither are particurly original.

I think he's a great rapper but lacks any playfulness to his style
