I cannot understand this bill from NTL at all!

Go Digital Max Pack from 14/01/07 to 13/03/07 --- 61.98

    Then
    Balance from previous bill : € -59.97
    Payments Recieved : €0.00
    Outstanding Balance - Due immediately € -59.97

    Total ammount due €2.01

And a threatening line on the end:

Failure to pay your account in full may result in disconnection. A reconnection fee of €50.00 will be charged and reconnection may take up to 10 days.

I pay by DD and don't appreciate this kind of nonsense and nastiness and think I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
    (I smell Chorus Customer "service")

Just to let ya know NTL own Chorus!!!!

    Not quite,
UPC own both NTL Ireland and Chorus and are in the process of merging their operations into a single entity.

I just detect an element of the Chorus customer "care" team in how NTL are suddenly dealing with customers. Would I be mistaken in assuming that customer care and billing just moved to the Chrous call centres in Limerick ?

They suddenly seem a lot nastier than usual.

The bill is saying that you owe 61.98 for this period (obviously).

    Then it says:
    Balance from previous bill : € -59.97
    Payments Recieved : €0.00
    Outstanding Balance - Due immediately € -59.97

    Total ammount due €2.01

Watch out for the minus signs. The balance or amount owing from your previous bill is -59.97, i.e. you are in credit.

Then it says that the amount due immediately is -59.97. In other words you owe nothing immediately, they owe you.

Finally it says that the total amount you actually owe (when you balance the credit in your account against the charges for this period) is 2.01, as you would expect.

I'd say the line about disconnection is simply a standard. You pay by DD, so the 2.01 will come out whenever it's due and you've nothing to worry about IMO.

Watch out for the minus signs. The balance or amount owing from your previous bill is not 59.97 ... it's -59.97, i.e. you are in credit.

The line about disconnection is factual. I don't see anything nasty in it or a suggestion that you are in arrears. Since you pay by DD, the 2.01 will come out whenever it's due and you've nothing to worry about IMO.

It still makes no sense. It's a totally stupid billing format!

And a standard threatening line is just nasty. It just gives me a very bad vibe about the company.

There's also an insert in the bill saying they'll be charging customers an extra €2 if they don't use DD. That's totally unfair, they could discount people's bills by 2 for opting to go DD, but penalising people for paying via normal methods is really harsh.

I'm definitely dumping them and going to Magnet or possibly Sky Digital.

Don't know whether its just a mistake on my bill, but the charge for digital TV is headed "UPC DIGITAL". Rebranding must not be far away now...

I much prefer the new format, with tax added for each individual package. Much easier to compare with advertised prices. Also beuing billed for one digital pack (rather than standard and Go Max!) helps.

Mine was also called UPC digital
