Hi, anyone that has any info on this

Apparently if any person other than an American citizen wins anything substantial in a tournament in Vegas, like say the WSOP 2007 for example, they will not be getting all the money directly, no, no and thrise times no.

Harrahs will be keeping 30% and handing it over to the American Internal Revenue Service, to save you having to do it yourself. Thats Americans for you, helpful to the last, such nice guys.:D

however, if one were to posess such a thing as an ITIN number, one gets to keep all the money and look after your own tax affairs.

    so, here is my query:

how does one acquire such a thing as an ITIN number, is it restricted to people from certain countries or whats the story

one ask this because one intends to go there in June 2007 and take home some cash from at least one of these events

    all help is appreciated:cool:

The nice staff at the Rio are not obliging in this respect by all accounts, but in other places such as the Bellagio they will acquire one for you should you need it. I am not sure if you can get one here before you go or if you need to have the tax details of the poker win in our cases before you can apply.

I am sure some of the Vegas veterans can enlighten us.

Here is a link to a site that has details about the ITIN.

I got mine from the nice people at the Mandalay bay. All I did was went up to the cashier cage and told them I needed an ITIN [Pronounced eye tin] The cashier didn't have a clue but I told them what it was and why I wanted it [To play in the WPT ME] So a quick call to one of the bosses and they found someone who did know. All I needed was my passport... They filled out the forms for me a W-7 and W-8BEN and a day or two later I collected the number. It's nine digits to happiness. [Well it would have been if I'd cashed.] There's basically two forms you fill out and the details of those are on the site Dom has linked you to. And then there's this site:

unfortunately i have only cashed in cash games or cash tourneys, never in the main events, but as i am feeling better about my game, i think i need to consider my options

No, you are incorrect, the reason they aint helpful is coz they dont know any better
they usually cant help you because they dont have the info / knowledge /kop on etc

i rang there 2 months ago and they wouldnt take a booking for a suite for the month of June or July
    why ??
we dont take bookings for suites when you are over 1 month away from your stay with us !!!

thats true, this woman hadnt a breeze so i asked for a manager, the same reply came so i explained about going for the WSOP and i need to be on location etc
oh, you are coming for that ?? great, have you a WSOP Code?
er, no, where do i get one ?
havent a clue, but if you call the people at the WSOP office they will probably have it
so i ask, do you know what the code is?
no, sorry sir but i havent been told it yet
ok, i will call you back
so i wait 10 mins and call him back
i tell him i have the code now and he is overjoyed
    i say that its WSOP2-007-HOT-ELCHEA-PROOMS
i say that i am allowed 50% discount with that code and there is no deposit required as i am a player already paid into the main event with my sponsor
    he books me in
last week i gets this call from another Rio dope who tells me that the code i gave was invalid and that someone was having fun at my expence
that the code when read properly was actually wsop 2007-hotel-cheap-rooms
he apologised for this mess and offered me another deal on rooms, but cannot take a booking for a suite this far out from the event
very bright over there arent they
so the next time you are wondering why they aint helpful, think about this
they just done know what they are doing and are not the sharpest tools in the box
