Very dodgy redundancy questions

I started in a permanent job in November in the I.T. department of a company that provides financial services to the public sector.

All was fine and dandy, I was out sick for the first week of the new year (certified by a doctor), during which time I was supposed to have a scheduled performance review. This got moved to the day I was back in work...then got moved twice more due to my manager having 'an important meeting'.

Finally it was scheduled for 4.30pm on a day I finished at 4pm. I sat around waiting, my manager didn't even have the decency to be on time for the review. At 5pm I thought, i'm not waiting around any longer and went to go home. Bumped into my manager who asked did I have a few minutes to do the review.

Went into his office, he basically said they are outsourcing my side of the I.T. department, and that I was being made redundant. As of...now. He said he'd give me an extra months pay, and 2/3 of my bonus. Fair enough, says I. I was pretty shocked so it didn't cross my mind to ask for anything in writing, which I now deeply regret.

I got paid by them today, and I got HALF of a months wage for the last month I worked. NO extra months pay. NO bonus.

I've rung the HR department and have gotten no satisfaction. They said they'll check with payroll, but they still haven't called back..

Can anyone tell me if it's illegal what they've done, not putting anything in writing? The citizens information site says it is, but I think that might only apply to statutory redundancy.

    Help!

First of all sorry to hear.

Secondly, from what I remember from my previous redundancy only the people with 2+ years got it in written (but this was a couple of years back so I could be wrong on that one).

For the rest I'd say they deducted 1 week for your sickness (being new in the company) but you still are owed the days you worked + the notice period (which I'd guess is 1 month as your manager said he'd pay you another month).

Bonus is verbal promise only, they don't have to pay it as far as I know. Best bet is probably to try to track down your manager (if he's still in the company).

Were you still in your probation period?
If yes, than they can just let you go without any reason and any sort of come back from your side.
You are only eligible for redundancy pay if you worked more than 2 years for the company (see here).
However if you look at the rules here, you see that your employer has to consult with you before you are made redundant, but also additional paid time off for finding a new job.
You might also check, if your employer makes enough people redundant, so that it classifies for collective redundancy.
