Recommend a Sky engineer

    Hi,

Could anyone recommend a private engineer that would come out to re-align a sky dish in the Maynooth, Kilcock area. Its impossible to get through to Sky so we are a bit stuck. Our signal and our neighbours went yesterday.

Also, is it possible to view Sky+ recordings without having a satellite signal, I couldn't manage to do it last night?

    Cheers,
    Finn

Tony right here on boards could probably do it. It is what he does :D
He installed a dish for me once.
I "think" this is his website... http://www.satellite.ie

Could we have a sticky for recommended installers?

Tony seems to be recommended, but does not have contacts everywhere. In particular in the Cork city area.

Tony, if you are reading, has anything changed since the last time I asked this? I will in a few months be looking at doing a HD install and finally moving my dish off the chimney and onto a back wall stand-off brackett. Obviously not something I'd trust the standard Sky guys to do!

To answer this... no. There must be a satellite connection to view recordings. It was changed so that there was a grace period (for a short loss of connection) but I think it might be one hour?

Thanks for that, Tony doesn't cover my area. Anyone have any other suggestions for Kilcock?

It's not that difficult to align your dish yourself. If the dish is perpendicular to the ground (ie perfectly level) point it at the direction of the sun at 10:00 in the mornings.

On your digibox go to Services->System->Signal test

When the network ID is 0002 and the Transport stream is 07D4 you're on the right satellite. The stength/quality meters can be used to fine tune it a bit.

Beware some digiboxes are a wee bit slow to update the signal test screen. So you might need to move the dish, wait a few secs, move it another bit etc.

You could try Electroplus either. They recently installed SKY+ and multiroom in our house and it was a fast efficient service. Not sure if they got to Maynooth, but they probably do since they are in Naas and they went as far as Dun Laoghaire to me.

Thanks for the advice, I have a guy coming out this morning to do it, €60 for what will probably be a quick job but I don't have a ladder long enough to get me up to the roof so I don't mind paying!

    Cheers.

If it works out ok, can you pm me the details?
I have exactly the same problem, but haven't gotten around to getting it sorted yet.

We do. Its part of the bricks and mortar sticky.

    €60 for a re-alignment is a lot cheaper than Sky standard call-out charge, €100.

I had a similar problem last year. We could still get a signal, but in bad weather it would cut out and sometimes disappear for a few minutes at a time.

I spotted a Sky installer down the road one day and went and asked him once he had finished would he mind checking my alignment if I gave him €20. No problem.

Was only a ten minute job and we've had no problems since. (Touch wood)
