    http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/79034/Whirl_Pool_Sucks_In_Whole_Lake.html

Engineers drilling on a shallow lake bed drilled too far and into a salt mine 1300ft below the lake. It created a whirlpool that sucked in all the water of the lake, pulled barges into the hole, reversed the flow of a canal and destroyed property.

Wonder did anyone ever have to pay anything for the accident?!

Wow, all from a 14" drill bit.
    Pretty cool.

    According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Peigneur
The drilling company, Texaco and Wilson Brothers paid $32 million (USD) to Diamond Crystal and $12.8 million to nearby Live Oak Gardens in out-of-court settlements to compensate for the damage caused.
