The Buying Game

A little bit of fun to pass the time.....

A kindly uncle/tooth fairy/genie has bequeathed you a gift of €250,000. However there are stipulations.
    1. The money must be spent on equipping yourself with a garage of five vehicles, in the categories below.
    2. Any money not spent you lose.
    3. Go over budget and you lose everything.
    4. Buy with your heart not your head. Ignore practical issues like depreciation.
5 All cars must be currently on sale in Ireland.

Why €250,000? Well its small enough to make you think about your choices while still enough to allow some nice cars.

    The categories are:-
A: A car for everyday running.
    B. A city car
    C. A fun car for the week-end.
    D. An off-roader / utility vehicle
    E. A long distance luxury cruiser.

OK, here are my initial choices, although I reserve the right to change later....:)

    A. BMW 330D SE Touring: €61,250
Why? Ideal combination of performance, frugality and space.

    B. Mini Cooper: €23,700
Why? Not the Cooper S, the Cooper offers plenty of performance for nipping around town.

    C. Nissan 350Z: €56,295
Why: Lairy hairy-chested rear wheel driver...

    D. Land Rover Defender 90 Hard Top TD5: €26,670
Why? Basic and crude, but goes anywhere.

    E. Citroen C6 3.0i V6 Exclusive: €74,500
Why? It's not BMW, Mercedes or Audi, supremely comfortable, love the looks, a future classic!

    Total Cost: €242,415.00

Not as easy it seems - none of these would be my ultimate dream cars -would need a budget about ten times the size for that....:D

I took my prices from a magazine but if somebody can post a link to an on-line current price list we can use that.

without bothering to chekc prices, i'll look into it more tomorrow...

i'd love an X5 so i could drive it over a cliff, a hummer so i could pack it full or fertiliser and a match and drive it into the dail, a smart roadster so i could speed away, an IS 250 sport from lexus, and a shelby cobra GT500 for the laugh.

Are used motors allowed? If so I'm including this baby (nearly there, mmmm almost) M5 for 15k:
    http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=566178

    Looks a nice motor though

And no I'm not selling this.

    - Thinking of buying it though

5 new motors bye the bye

    All prices off carzone

    A VW Golf GTI 5 door 36,655
B Honda Jazz 1.4 SE Sport 19,870 - it'll do in the city for all the driving I'll do in it.
    C Lotis Exige 59,995
    D Nissan x-trail 2.2 dci 4x4 39,560 it'll do 'offroad'
    E Jaguar 3.0 V6 XJ6 Executive 86,760

That leaves just over seven grand for a nice road trip to France/Italy/Germany with C on a trailer pulled by D while I shift it in E

I take your point about the Citroen styling. Very cool

    :

Top choice! - would have been on my shortlist also, only they are not listed here.

Speaking of which, anyone know of any reputable importers/distributers willing to take on a new challenge? Was talking to the Caterham export man at the Autosport show and he reckoned that if they could find the right people, they would seriously consider setting up here.
