Wii mired in medioce games

Is it just me or is the selection of games for the wii looking really dull?

Ill grant Zelda may be a worthwhile game even though Im not a fan myself - but is there another good game out there? Am a Nintendo fan, and am impressed with the controller(have only tried Wii sports and WiiPlay which really are just demos) and what Nintendo is trying to do. But is there a risk of it being still born through lack of must-have games?

I had in mind to get a Wii once the hype calms down and can just pick one off a shelf with a few top games, but it seems there's nothing to tempt me.
Am now thinking of getting a X360 with PES6,PGR3, Gears of War and Pinata instead. Maybe a Wii in another year when I would hope to be able to buy games i really want to play rather than poor games just because thats what available for the system.

Just feeling a bit disappointment.......the Wii could fade away like the Cube without really achieving the success it (probably-verdict reserved) deserves...........

That's why I've put off buying one. The first wave of titles was all about the controller and what it could do. Over the next six months developers will become comfotable with it and start focusing on the games rather than the control input - same thing happened with the DS. I'll most likely pick one up around next Christmas time.

The fact that Zelda was on the Gamecube sealed the deal for me.

Just played Red Steel today, and I have to say it was quite crap.
Aside from the fact that it's not my type of game, it was just too sloppy and all over the place.I have to say Zelda is all the Wii has right now.
I have finished it and now I find myself just playing the VC games and putting the finishing touches on my Zelda file.I guess now I just have to wait for Super Smash Bros, Mario, Mario Kart, Sonic, Pokémon, and more Zelda!!!

I'm hoping it's like the DS, 6 months of developers getting used to the system and very few games and then a torrent of original and just plain brillaint titles. The release schedule for the next 6 months is a bit sparse but with Fire Emblem, Smash Bros. and Metroid hopefully out in the near future there will at least be a few games filling in the gaps. Still it could go the way of the GC but with the run away success of the Wii and the ease of development I'm hoping the big publishers and indy studios come on board.

Again, while I think it is a great console and want to support Nintendo, there just isnt enough games at the moment. Having played Zelda on GC, all thats left is a collection of sub-par multi-format titles and mini game collections. Just can't bring myself to spend the money yet.
I really can't wait til Mario Galaxy et al so I can justify buying one.

I have Zelda and Wii Sports, I won Red Steel so thats alright and the range of games hasn't got me excited at all, currently all I would buy is Madden and Far Cry this dumb kiddy games dont appeal to me at all Warioware/Monkeyball

I mainly bought it for the potential and I'd say the best is yet to come if you are patient

Ive never been into zelda but i have to say wii sports alone is worth it right now. The games might not be fully developed the way some people wanted them to be but in a way i think thats a strong point cause ive a mate who went and got a wii just because of wii sports and hes not into games. Its so easy to get into because of the lack of complicated game play.

As has been said the ds had the same problem when it came out but look at it now a run away success.

I think the calibre of the games overall is a bit of a let down.
But lets not forget this is a different concept in gaming, its geared at the social scene, thats why people on these boards are raving about Warioware, and Rayman, WiiSports and Wii Play.

Nintendo is going for a different angle in my opinion.

To be honest, it will take a while for developers to buy fully into the idea with the wii, but overall i'm quite happy with the titles so far. There are some big games coming out in the next 6 months. Mario, Metroid...

I'm looking forward to Metal Slug Anthology tbh.

I was never a Zelda fan either til i picked it up for the wii, now i love it.

So far i've only Zelda, WiiPlay & Sport, and Wario.

But i'm happy enough at the moment, i might get madden next.

its been a disappointing launch, but thats nintendo.

as for games coming out over the next few months, there isn't a lot really going by the Play.com release list. The only ones i'm actually interested in are Metroid, Mario Party 8 and SSX Blur, none of which are scheduled to come out til March, and i would be shocked if Metroid and mario made it out in march.

The lack of top games isnt just a WII issue. Look at the shoight that the PSP had at launch, and even beyond, etc.

At least theres hope things will improve as the developers get more from the WII, and the games mature.

I was planning on getting a wii after the hype died down also but now ive gone off the idea of getting one coz i know if i bought one that i'd play zelda like mad then it wud become a €280 dust collector. I still want one but only when theres a decent range of quality games out like mario, zelda, metroid etc.

Is it just me or has everyone completely missed the point of the Wii. Its not for playing games like GOW and PES6. Its for playing new innovative and dare I say it quirky little games. We knew exactly what the launch line up was going to be for months. Why did you all scramble to get a wii when you knew that there wasnt going to be any notable single player games (other than Zelda) untill later in the year?

I only got mine the other day and its everything I expected. I got Warioware and obviously wii sports. Il get Zelda when I have time to play it. Its perfect for me as I work alot (well im in the office alot) and have a pretty hectic social life. Most of the gaming I get to do is when I have the lads over.

The way I see it is 360 for time consuming single player games and wii for dipping in when I have 10 minutes or for partys.

But then look at the wait for proper, good multiplayer titles.

Warioware is average, i don't have rayman so can't comment and that pretty much just leaves WiiSports. We're gonna be waiting an age for Mario Party 8, and the only other multiplayer title i have heard of that interests me is the new puzzle bobble game, but that could be very very shallow and repetitive.

Remove multiplayer aspects and just concentrate on "innovative and quirky" titles - what is there? Seriously. Bar the innovative control style there are no innovative games right now, and what are the ones on the way?

I bought the Wii to play with friends, to quickly get competitive and fun games going with the need to learn and master a whole pile of button combinations, but apart from WiiSports, no title has filled the criteria satisfactorally imo.

I'm still happy i bought the console, and i have faith that titles i want and enjoy will come out eventually, but to simply dismiss complaints regarding the game line-up as people missing the point, is shallow.

I don't get the complaining either. No one was forced to buy a Wii. If people don't like the launch line up then who is to blame for buying the console at launch???

Because i needed to get a birthday present and i have everything else! :D

People may have thought games like red steel, call of duty, GT would have been better then they turned out to be. I know i, for one, was looking forward to red steel, only to find out it is average, at best, and that call of duty is the same.

Yeah a bit of a dry spell

Really it depends what kinda games you are into, excite truck is coming out soon. COW3 is great fun, my brother has it.. if you do not like red steel (i do) then you might like that.

On VC i am now re-addicted to R-type. I am so crap, replaying the first two levels again and again. Some of the old games are hard, damn hard. I think games have gotten easier over the years.

There are loads of games in the pipeline. it will take a year to get a great roster though..

Hmm, I feel a nagging sense of déja-vu with the Wii that I hope will be shaken off sooner rather than later. Shown by the majority of anticipated Wii releases, it seems that the Wii is falling squarely into the trap of "Fantastic first (and Second) party titles, third party tripe" that dogged both the N64 and the GameCube in it's early days, and (arguably) was a major contributing factor in their premature demise.

Glad to see Im not alone feeling the lack of 5 star games.
Anyway, I did pick up a Wii this morning in Argos as was my original plan, and I usually get all the consoles anyway. The 360 can wait until its price drops a bit.

So, what games a really worth getting ?

None at the moment I guess (just dont see myself giving Zelda a go). Does anyone know whats imminent? I normally just have a go at the best dozen or so (with a bit of personal preference) games for each machine, rather than wasting time with the masses of dross filling the shelves.
From the last generation I liked: ProEvo, Forza, SuperMonkeyBall, TigerWoodsGolf,MarioKart, ICO, OurRun2, Prince of Peria(all 3), Pikmin, Gran Turismo3, Halo, 1080Avalanche and, the king of its generation for sheer fun, Burnout Takedown.

haven't played it myself but from what ive heard of other people who have played red steel and hated it at the start but really really got into it after a while

i've preety much got as much out of zelda as im going to get for now

so at the moment im really loving call of duty 3, true the lack of multiplayer is a problem but single player is absolutly brilliant
supurb graphics and sound and the wiimote works like a dream
