    Who has one?
    What is it?
    What does it cost you annually in fuel, insurance, etc?
    How reliable is it?
    And any other info you think is relevant:D

    I'd love to get a mid 60's mustang (or '70 mach1) but can't see it in the immediate future. I was just wondering how much it would be to keep one

    A 72' Mustang Coupe.Insurance about
    500 euro per year, tax 42. Fuel depends on how much you use it,mines not a daily driver, I stick in 20 quid and use it. I don't find it that heavy on fuel tbh, then again you can't expect 1 liter economy from a 5.8 liter.Service parts are not that expensive and can be got from most motor factors with a bit of research on different part numbers, several brands do the same oil filters with different numbers for example, same would apply to plugs etc. If your just looking for an occasional driver rather than something you want to restore to new condition, it's really not that expensive apart from the initial outlay.

    Yes, mainly because I paid for the add months ago and it's free to renew. But if the right offer came along I would sell;)

    So, how does it drive - does it handle well, and does it take long to brake properly?

    It drives excellently.It takes a little time to get used to though. It has a 3 speed auto which is not like an auto box in a modern car.Loads of torq, so it will rumble along at 30 mph nicely and climb to max speed all in top gear with no problems.
    Brakes are good but they are not antilock so again it's a little different from a modern car. It handles fine in a straight line and even on country roads if I take my time, you just have to beaware that it's a 5.8 liter with loads of grunt and 35 year old suspension:p

    I've barely ever driven an auto-box at all, but that may be an advantage as I'm not expecting any particular type of behaviour!

    This is going to seem like a really stupid question - but can I take it that it is actually a quick car? I only ask because it seems like some classic cars with big engines don't perform that well. I think Top Gear had a Ford Gran Torino race against a Corsa which won...

    A quick car, probably not in terms of subaru imprezza quick. It will do whats on the clock,which is 120 mph and 0-60 in about 7 seconds. I'm not sure if thats good in terms of todays generation of cars. Mine has tons of grunt,tons of power. if your a boy racer a classic yank probably wouldn't suit.I suppose the attraction isn't really about ride comfort or handling, most don't handle very well anyway without major upgrades to suspension etc, I get a buzz just from starting it up and listening to it gurgel.

    I'm not a boy racer at all :eek:, I just don't want to take on the costs of a 5.8 litre car without some of the benefits - which some classics don't deliver.

    Likewise I know that it won't handle like a go-kart, but again, if I manage to get into a situation where I can drive it regularly enough, I don't want constant brown-pants moments.

    Your best bet Eoin is to look at and compare as many as possible, your certainly welcome to see mine any time, purley as a comparison to others you may have seen.I need very little excuse to take it out for a spin, infact there is one I think in 2 weeks time starting at stillorgan which i'll try to go to or mine is parked out west near the naas road at redcow. Pm me if you want to look. Btw, I'm not trying to force a sale here, any classic lover is welcome to have a look anytime.
