ok i got a midi controller keyboard a while back and it was working fine but then i had to format my computer and the program that was creating the sound (cubasis, thats definatly the way to spell it as opposed to cubase) had vanished so im just wondering if if anyone knows a program that would do the same thing because i can plug it in and its recognised as i still have the drivers but no sound comes out, any suggestions would be really appriciated :) thanks in advance

Depends on what you want to do apart from just hearing something. If you want to make, record, edit music or whatever, click on the "Make Electronic Music" link in my signature for a list of programs and techniques.

If you just want to hear something and not bother recording etc, just download a free program called MiniHost (http://www.tobybear.de/p_minihost.html). This hosts plugins called VSTis that create sounds. I'd suggest downloading mda piano (http://www.pluginspot.com/documents/30.html), this is a free VSTi that can be hosted by MiniHost and allow you to play half decent piano sounds with your keyboard. Best of luck.

Why can't you just reinstall Cubasis?

I'm telepaul, you probably got it free with something like a soundblaster soundcard, right? It should be on one of the discs that came with it.

You're TelePaul? Then who am I??

All thats needed is a sequencer and some samples.

    Google 'Reaper' as your sequencer

And go here for samples and vsti instruments:
