Wind blew dish out of place

    Hi

Last night the wind blew the satellite dish out of place - i.e. its now pointing towards the ground.I had a little push at it with a sweeping brush and it moves cause its on a hinge. The tv says "no signal etc."

Do you think if I just push it back until its pointing up it will be okay or do I need to do anything to the box as well? I really just want to know if I can fix it myself cause I dont fancy ringing Sky in Scotland and being put on hold for two hours...

I know absolutely nothing about the technicalities of this by the way (in case you hadnt noticed!)

    Thanks

    Hello again

Finally got through to Sky and the lady said that the first available date for an engineer is.........

    6TH OF MARCH????

Does anyone have any advice re: 1.) doing it myself, or, 2.) some company I can contact who can help me?

OK, you may need some help. Somebody to shout to you from where the TV is.

Put the Digibox on, and press Services, 4 (system setup), 6 (signal test).

Now, with somebody able to keep an eye on the signal meter, you'll need to get at the dish. Depending on the dish type, you'll need either a 10mm or 13mm spanner to tighten the 4 bolts.

The dish roughly points straight ahead, a rather minute tilt upwards. So as you adjust the dish elevation, have somebody tell you what's happening the signal levels (Only pay attention to the Signal Quality bars). Bear in mind that the signal meters on the box take a few seconds to respond to any signal change. You'll need to be patient!

I'm assuming here that only the elevation of the dish has changed, since it's pointing downwards.

    Hello

I meant to reply and say thanks yesterday - I have actually been lurking around here for ages reading about people setting up lidl satellite dishes and watching films in Turkish and how to tune in "channel 123456yy" etc.

As a non tech girl I admit I dont really understand what y'all are talking about half the time (like the weather forum which I also love) but as a complete nerd and tv addict I love it nevertheless.

All those instructions on how to fix the dish myself were SPOT ON, I knew it was simple from reading all your previous posts (sky said "no no dont touch it yourself etc.") the only problem was a lack of a spanner to loosen the bolts and extreme pressure on me as the partner that works from home to get it fixed before 12.45 tomorrow i.e. liverpool vs chelsea on Sky Sports.

So in the end I had to ring a man who came and fiddled with it for ten seconds and charged me 50 euros. I will buy some spanners and await the next catastrophe!

    Thanks again

byte's advice is good, but it's even simpler!

The dish has angle marks on the bracket. You set it to ~21 degree, and tighten said bolts. Then point the dish at the sun at 10am. Tighten the other bolts. Done.

BTW, a socket set (doesn't have to be professional.. any will do) is *much* nicer to use than spanners.
