Any alternatives to Expedia?

I'm in the process of booking hotels for a trip I'm taking so I priced them on expedia.com and went through the booking process. When I came to the credit card page Ireland wasn't listed. I thought it might be because they have an expedia.co.uk site and might have wanted Irish people to go through that so I tried it there. Same result.

I emailed their support and got this reply.

"Thank you for your enquiry concerning the restriction to complete bookings on the Expedia.co.uk site when using an originating address within the Republic of Ireland.

Due to restricting Irish regulations relating to the offering of travel products in and out of the Republic of Ireland, we currently do not accept bookings from customers with a booking address within the Irish Republic. Work is in progress to rectify this situation but in the meantime we regret that we are unable to process your booking at this time."

I notice they've no problem advertising hotels in Ireland though. Thats a bit weird.

Has anybody used any other sites to book hotels. There's www.hotelopia.ie which I might use but the site looks like it's from a template, they want me to ring a premium rate number to talk to their sales guys and they don't support all the citys I want to go to.

I use www.venere.com which is pretty good.

One of the benefits is that most of the properties featured on Venere only use your credit card to secure the property, so you don't pay until you arrive (or fail to cancel!).

There's loads of links in the booking site sticky at the top of the forum.

Have a look at lastMinute, Travelocity, opodo, tripadvisor to name but a few.

Had exect same problem at weekend. Found flights for €200 less than anywhere else but couldnt find Ireland on the list when I got to billing address. Seriously p!ssed off!!

Travelocity is pretty similar to Expedia and does accept bookings from ROI. Hotels.com is ok too and if you can find some good budget/guesthouse type places on hostelworld.com (use advanced search option)
