VoIP and International format numbers

Right so I'm trying out all this VoIP stuff but can't even get around the very basics like imputing the correct phone numbers. I'm trying to dial a landline number on voipstunt/voipcheap to no avail.

Landline calls to Ireland are listed as free. They ask you to imput the numbers in international format so, for my number, I put in 0035386*******.

The landline I'm trying to dial is a Dublin number so I dial 0035301260****.

Or do I drop the 0 in the 01 Dublin area code to make it look like 003531260**** ?

When I try the latter they both say "Sorry, this destination is not free". For everything else I try the call gets disconnected - number invalid.

I'm always getting confused when it comes to dropping zeros, adding zeros etc...

    please help. :o

If you are using international dialing codes, you always drop the 0. If you are dialing national call, put in the 0

    Exceptions:
    LoCall and freephone numbers etc.
So, if you want to ring 1890 88 23 24 from outside Ireland you cannot ring 003531890882324 you would have to find out their actual landline number.

Never used anyone but Blueface so I can't be of much help. Although it SHOULD work the same with all providers.

Thanks, I think I figured it out. It will only accept my landline number for free calls and the area code zero has to be dropped.

Ok this is sorta related, I apologize it isn't completely on topic however it may save some aggravation, Here in North America VoIP and digital phonelines are notoriously bad for Faxlines, sometimes they work, other times they dont. Some offer bandwidth extensions that seem to be successful sometimes. Anyways, I hope this helps. ;)

Yes VOIP has to switch to using a different system for faxing. Most VOIP operators can't support this properly. If your VOIP is provided built into a Cable Modem, then it only goes on your ISP's private network to voice gateway and fax or even dailup modem will work.

In Ireland Chorus/NTL (Now UPC), Caseyvision and Digiweb Metro are compatible with cable modems that have builtin VOIP and managed QOS (Quality of Service). I havn't heard how well UPC and Caseyvision works or if they have implemented what is needed to make Faxing work.

Anybody tried it on NTL/UPC's newly relaunced cable phone service in Dublin?
