It's doing my head in, how can I get the fish to bite? They don't seem interested!

Same here, got the Wii and Zelda today and its great stuff, but i have spent the last half hour trying to catch a fish, and no good.. annoying stuff, cos i want to get stuck into slashing enemies up..

Flick the lure out in the water.... watch the bobber carefully... when it starts to sink that means you have a bite so you need to pull back on the Wiimote and use the nunchuck to reel in the fish.

what you do is look around in first person view, make suere there are fish where you are casting on into.

right this is the tricky part,

    cast out your line.
    hold the wiimote tilted down
use the slightest of movements downwards to bob the lure.
the green marker on the top of the lure should be submerged in water
    then the fish should bite.

i agree this fishing method is such a pain.

i'd imagine they haven't got to the reeling in of fish yet.

    dip your knob in there!!!

nah you have to move the lure around and wait until one swims up and starts staring at it.

Guys I'm assuming he means the bit at the start where you have to catch the fish...

Stand on the little wooden jetty behind the house with the waterwheel.
Equip the fishing rod, and press b to use it.
Hold the remote up, then flick it down so it's straight out, and that should cast your line out into the water.
Now simply DO NOT move the remote.
You will see the float settle in the water, and you may see fish swimming towards the bottom of the screen, or you mightn't see them at all.
    Now just wait...
The float will bob a little as the fish nibble at it.
When the float goes almost completely under the water, snap the remote straight up, and hold it there, it should say "Fish on" on the screen. Keep holding the remote straight up, and this will pull the fish in to you and lift it out of the water.

Hope that helps anyone having difficulty with it.

If you meant at the fishing hole, let me know and I'll write a mini-guide for it too.

I got so fustrated trying to do that i put the controllers down on the floor and low and behold as soon as i did that a fish grabbed on!

To actually catch a fish i just put my hands on the floor, with controllers still in them this time and got fish :)

    strange but true!

This was frustrating when I first started, but once I "got it", I could do it every time, it was really easy. The first time though? Really didn't get it, must have spent about 15 minutes just flicking it out and back.

You'll see though, once you figure out how it works, it's really easy.

jesus lads has anyone even tried using bait?
you need to get an empty jar, and go collect some honey comb stuff from where you smash the bees nest. whilsy you have the rod in hand use the honey (now i cant remember whether its honey or bees wax or similar, but you get my drift). you'll be bagging up in no time :)

obviously you are using a float and not a lure, so you need to wait for the float to settle, and when it dips, strike buy lifting the remote. when you have a fish on use the numchuck to reel in .... easy :)

p.s you can catch fish without bait, but its harder, and the wait is longer, and the fish are smaller.

the best place to start is where the cat is playing, you'll get rewarded by giving him a feed too :)

Thing is at this stage, they don't have a bottle to put the bee larvae into.

I think if i remember rightly i started fishing without bait as soon as i got the rod, and caught tiddlers. Am i right in saying that i got a jar froim the shop? ... if i am, i drank the contaents and used the empty jar to get the bait.... its all a bit of a blur now :o

edit ... i think i caught were the cat is playing gave him a fish, and then i was rewarded with one item from the shop .... but im not 100%

Yeah once you catch a fish...
you get the cats attention, when you catch the second one, the cat takes it back to the shop and you get a bottle of milk as a reward, which is the first bottle. Can't get the bait before that.

peepingtom, any chance you could use spoiler tags on that, it's bad form to give out public solutions.

Do a spoiler by editing your post then
at the start of the paragraph you want to hide then [/sp0iler] with an "o" instead of a zero and it will create a spoiler block like Damo is using under your post.

    Cheers.

Fishing is great when you get to the proper fishing area
