Just wondering what IPOs people expect to happen this year?

From what I've heard (and I'm sure it's widely known), Smurfit Kappa are going to float but don't know much else.:o

Some other possibles are Perlico, Clearwire and Visa.
Mastercard was one of the best for 2006 in terms of returns so Visa will be interesting to watch.
It seems that Perlico has some prominant Irish backers already. See link:

Personally wouldnt back perlico, telecoms sector isnt profitable at the moment especially when your spending lots on advertising and the margins available are low. add to that underhand tactics of taking the customers and it doesnt provide for a good share price.

You can knock Clearwire off that list

I wouldnt be inclined to back them either because i dont know much about them. BUT, i wouldnt be too dismissive either because of what is happening at the moment. As you know the share price normally reflects future projected earnings so if/when they branch into the mobile/financial services/electricity markets, this could provide more shareholder value.
See this article for their future plans:

It is still a possibility because it is common for companies to plan to float and then back out, only to float again. This article was written this month, a good few months since the Intel/Motorola funding.

I hear ya, but to be honest I think they are doomed. So many companies have started in telecoms so they can branch into the further deregulated industries gas, elec, etc when they come along but I know from being in the industry a few years back the profits are only there if you dont spend hugely on advertising. Smart and Esat lost millions, even though they boasted having loads of customers, but the reality was that they had funk all customers compared to the incumbent monopoly. Once you sign a customer in telecom they can change in a month and often do, so its very hard to consolidate a customer base expeciallly when other tricksters are coming up with every method under the sun to get your customer. I would hazard a guess that eircom probably still have about 85% of the market with the other 15% divided among the other 30 or whatever companies out there. When you are spending a fortune on direct mail, radio and tv advertising and not getting the response because the market is saturated debts grow. I could be wrong but i imagine perlico are in a lot of debt and the flotation is some sort of last ditch effort....am I allowed to say all that

Just googling it, the VISA IPO would seem to be at the end of the year if it happens.
If you have an account with Etrade, you have access to its IPO Centre but the current IPOs are the ones which are only a few weeks away.

By the way, Clearwire Corp is on the list of Upcoming IPOs, filed on 19/12/2006.
