Just wondering what other boardsies did the year they finished college. Anyone who took a year out, what did you do? I'm just looking for ideas because I finish my four year degree this May and want to take a year out and maybe go abroad. Anyone do anything wild and exciting they'd care to share?

I got offered the mother of all post-graduate courses, and now I'm doing that course.

I had taken time out of my degree to work and travel though...

Wanted to go abroad / travel for the year, but it wasn't an option for various reasons I won't go into. Often regretted it.

A few of my gang went to Oz, had a good laugh. Two went to South America, which was a bit different, travelled all round, worked a bit here and there but mostly just travelled. They're still talking about it!! (Mind you, they had some contacts over there, which made life easier)

I went on the dole... it was great.

Gave me the time to skill myself up in a completely different field and then I started a job as a graphic designer.... I had studied broadcast journalism... but college put me off the whole thing.

Finished my finals, arseed about all summer on the dole and watched nearly every single world cup game while drinking beer and having BBQs. Went to SE Asia for a couple of months with some friends and the started the most boring job ever known to man as soon as I came back (related to my degree).

Will be moving to the UK to get out of my job and go into a different area covered by my degree to see if I like that more and just to get out of Ireland for a year or two.

Might do a quick month away somewhere before I start though. The i plan to do a masters if I like my new field of work

no option for working full time straight out of college and doing post grad part time so i didnt vote

    (all degree related)

I did a one year post-graduate course and started work in a job related to my course 3 days after my final exam. I wouldn't recommend it tbh. If you can afford to travel or can get some short-term work that'll help you get the cash together to go traveling do it.

Went straight into work the week after I finished. Needed the money. I'm still there nearly 2 years later.

What kind of job did you get in France? I'm thinking of moving to France myself...
I'm into my second year of doing NOTHING AT ALL.

I can see how it would be so easy just to do nothing for a year, thats why I'm trying to get a few ideas!

Oh dear God no don't do it - it's the most awful thing you could ever do at least do something with the time a year in Auzzie or France is fine at least you did *something*. A year+ like mine is extremely hard to explain:

"What have you done since you left Uni then?"

........."I was to lazy to do anything so for over an year I sat on my ass"

    "Cool you've got the job!"........ye :D

I went straight into employment unrelated to my degree, because I hated the course I did and have no interest in working in that field.

I think you'll find that you've been working on your novel, yes?

Went into employment but the contract ended. Hindsight, I wish I travelled immediately. Gonna go now instead.
