Buying good Home Cinema cables - where?

Where can I go within 20/25 minutes of where I work to get some quality phono cables? - I work near the Grand Canal in Dublin 4, within sight of Lansdowne Road. I want to get them before the weekend so I'm willing to buy in a shop (normally will only buy online).

    Some options -

Sony Centre Ballsbridge (rubbish cable selection)

    Xtravision Baggot St. (ditto)

    Peats Dame St.

    Philips Dame St.

Dixons/Currys Jervis St. (a bit too far and muppet staff)

    ESB Fleet St (?)

Roches Stores/Arnotts Henry St. (muppets)

Is HM Entertainment long gone from Dame St, and the Home Cinema section of Brown Thomas?

    Any better suggestions?

    Ta muchly.

Are you looking for interconects or speaker cable? I suppose either way your only option is Peats in Dame Street. The other options on your list are... well... "optimistic" to say the least. :D Maplins at Jervis Street would be a bit further but would only have a similar range in terms of quality - speaker cable by the reel though which can be useful.

Thanks Slaphead, I got speaker cable from Lektopacks (very fast delivery), but to my horror realised I was using some crappy phono cables for sub, CD and cable! I knew my system needed a revamp - so planning to put everything together at the weekend, so trying to get shortish phono gold plated preferably, 0.5 to 1 metre will do..and a short s-video for hooking up the Archos AV500 to my DVD player!:D

Jesus Christ how pathetic it is in this country for cables.
Walked all the way into Dame St. Went into Philips Store. "Hi I'd like to buy phono cables please". "We don't have any". "Are you serious?". "Yes. Try Peats"

Went into Peats. In fairness they had Phono cables. 5 metre bog standard ones for €9.99. No s-video cables at all.

I live near Harvey Norman I think that's my last chance before I go to Lektropacks or Pixmania online.

Its like the housing situation, no joined up thinking. Building huge estates nowhere near public transport. Selling plasmas/LCDs/Home Cinema processors without any decent cables. Its something in the Irish psyche - supply the basic goods without the necessary extras.

I couldnt agree with you more. All of these stores sell top of the range Plasmas Lcd's amplifiers dvd players etc and when you want good high quality speaker/interconnect cables they look at you as if you had two heads. They seem to think that the 'thicks' that buy this gear from them wont notice if we give them crap cables to link them all together. I had a friend who had just bought a home cinema projector and wanted to link it to his amp with component video cable. So he thought, no problem, peats will stock that so off he goes. They barely knew what he was talking about. He enquired with them was he in 'Peats...the world of electronics' and they dont even stock component video cable. What a farce. (Peats get your finger out and your prices down) I say thank god for online shopping. I always get my cables from the uk...hificables.co.uk to name one. If you want a few more let me know. Cheers
