Immobiliser issues

    Hey,

I'm driving a 00 VM Bora TDI. Last night the immobiliser kicked in and after first thinking that the battery was flat, finally noticed the key icon on the HUD. The key was working fine a few hours earlier and VW give no information on reseting the immobiliser. Anyone have any experience with something like this before?

    Hi,

    There is no resetting procedure.

The key can work ok mechanically but the immob part can still be faulty. Try a spare key if you have one. Leave 60 seconds with ignition off between attempts if you are trying more than one key. Failing that I think you will need to get it on a diagnostic computer.

As Mr.Diagnostic says, try the spare keys - there should be two. One is a regular looking key, the other is a small plastic 'emergency' key. If the same fault shows with the spare keys, then it's a diagnosis job.

VWs give trouble sometimes with the coil that reads the code from the key.

Yes the coil can become loose or disconnected from the harness.

Or, have you another car key on the same bunch? Sometimes they can interfere with each other.
