Encrypted mp3 files?

I've come across a CD that seems to be an update CD for a jukebox/mp3 player for a pub.

There is only a few songs on it. The all have a .mp3 extension but when I try to play them in any application there is no sound at all.

I'd imagine these are all copyrighted material so it may be against the rules to ask how to rip them etc.

I was just wondering are these type of CD made to play in specific drives or is it a specific "industry" codec being used?

The CD seems to be burnt using DiskJuggler, if that's anyway important.
