    Hey All

I've never undertaken a trip like this before and have mainly stuck to packages when traveling so forgive me if my questions seem obvious or stupid....anyway while i'm still planning my trip of about 6 weeks through europe i came across keycamp.ie and notice sites they use around europe...i was wondering if there is alot of campsites around europe and if it is possible for me to throw a good tent in the back of the car and just head off?

Would i need to pre book into any camp sites/hostels or could i just turn up and set up or would it be more expensive this way?

Also is there anywhere i could get a list of campsites and hostels around europe so that i could plan a route?

    Thanks

    Hi There

I have done a considerable amount of travelling around Europe, over recent years I have used many campsites with my family.

There are loads of sites all over Europe, many sites are owned and run as Independent businesses, and it is usually possible to take your tent and rent a pitch. Whilst I have done this in the past, I find it difficult to manage now that we have the children with us.

For the last 4 years I have used Keycamp Holidays. The tents provided are superb and the equipment included makes for a far more comfortable stay than any tent you can throw into the car. You get a full size fridge, a cooker and real beds not to mention all the necessary plates, glasses, knives and forks etc which Keycamp provide. You also get outdoor furniture and a bbq on most sites! There is also the huge benefit of the tent already being set up before you arrive with a car load of tired kids!

It is necessary to book in advance because these holidays are really popular with families. Going with Keycamp also gives you access to their fantastic childrens clubs, and these are included in the holiday cost!

I hope that this information helps you come to a decision, I don't even consider booking with the sites direct now, as lugging all the equipment around and putting the tent up and down when you travel on kind of spoils the holiday fun!

I'd bring a tent anyway just incase, I've only ever camped once while in Europe and it was only because there was no accomidation left in Amsterdam when I arived. When I called up asking if they had any space available the guy on the phone chuckled "we have loads". I assumed that ment they always have loads and I was stupid for asking. I don't know how family orientated it was, it seemed to be full of hippies and students.

It was a good campsite though everything you needed they even had cabins and rented tents. http://www.hostelworld.com do all cheapo accomodation including campsites which aren't totaly family orientated.
