I'm having trouble finding a longer lasting battery from my compaq presario C300EA,but the battery i have has HP serial numbers & codes all over it,so should i be looking for HP compatible batteries or compaq ones?

On the back of the battery is a number HSTNN-IB17,but i can't find any info on the web:(

HP and Compaq are the same company and share components.

You might clarify whether this battery is just worn out through use (so you need a new one which will be longer lasting) or whether you are looking for an "extended" battery (which will be bigger and heavier.)

I have had more good luck buying batteries from eBay than bad although have definately had the bad also.

I'm after a battery that lasts longer in terms of hours it will give power, the current one runs out after about 2 hours, with light use (browsing the web), how would a replacement battery be a bigger size?,it would be heavier, but a bigger battery wouldn't fit into the slot?

Generally an extended battery will extend back or down, sort of propping the keyboard up a bit (often this actually helps with the typing position.) This is presuming the battery slots into the computer in such a way that it forms part of the external casing of the laptop. If it slides entirely into a slot you are unlikely to be able to get an extended one. You may depending on your laptop be able to add a second however (sometimes instead of the floppy disk/DVD drive.)
