Broken Shift Lever in VW Touareg

    Hey all,

My father drives a 06 VW Touareg R5 2.5 TDI (automatic), and recently he forced the shift lever without pressing the release button, which resulted in the base of the lever becoming a mess. Consequently, the lever can no longer be moved to the "S" position, and the dashboard computer no longer registers when the lever is moved to the "D" position (before it would indicate whether you were currently in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th gear).

Has anyone else run into this trouble? Is there an easy way of fixing it, or is it just best to bring it back to the dealership. It is still under warranty, would it be covered in this situation?

    Thanks,
    NT

I would say try the warranty, they should be pretty helpful with something like this.
