 Can anyone give me info please. I got a new Navman N20 gps as a gift. I drive alot in the munster area and thought this would mean I would never again get lost or have to ask for directions. While it seems to be quite good in cities it is useless off the main N roads. Most R roads do not exist and I just have the message Go to nearest road. Navmam say that it has the latest mapping by Tele atlas but can Navtec maps be loaded instead??

I was driving a rental car with Hertz which had a gps system all around ireland over the summer, on some of the crappiest roads in the country most likely, up in donegal, the west and down south by cork/kerry. Not sure exactly what system/provider it was but it had nearly every road I was on.

Tele atlas mapping is apparently WAY behind navteq and to be honest what ive seen is not great. Dont have any experience with that unit but if its windows based then i cant see why you cant format it, buy a nav package based on navteq mapping ( like route 66 ) and load it on. Beware ,a format WILL lose everything and make sure you have a backup in case you want revert back.

Other option is to wait till Teleatlas catch up. Their mapping vans ( similar to this )were seen here on N4 amongst other places so updates are coming...but when.

Mate got this back in December from TeleAtlas re his NavMan.

    "Dear Mr. Xxxxxxxxx,

Thank you for your interest in Tele Atlas products.

Please be advised that starting from June 2007, our first products with full
coverage for Ireland (Northern Ireland included) will release"

So you can add six to 12 months for the info to filter through to various GPS systems.
