Hi everyone, hope I have this in the right place, i'm trying to set up friends bb and have run into a few problems!! He has bt broadband, the router that was supplied was wired only, not enabled for wireless, got a new laptop for xmas so decided wanted to go wireless, went to install existing wired router on it, but both win xp and disk instllation were running at same time so i cancelled xp one. oops! when disk finished a message came up and said there is a problem with hardware and may not work properly, get message up telling me to plug in router but when i plug it in and press yes, it says same thing over, and over. tried, re-install, system restore and then re-install. As he wanted to go wireless anyway i told him to get wireles router, he bought this in local shop in town, but it needs to be connected to existing wired router to work but as i cant get existing router to work, that didnt work, went back to shop and asked for a router that was both wired and wireless enabled, so he wouldnt need 2 outers, girl in shop said those routers are only provided by bb provider. Is this true?? is there anything else i can do? sorry its so long!

You can easily get devices that are both DSL modems, routers and provide wired and wireless connectivity. Netgear and Dlink both make such devices.

Not sure what you were installing on the laptop as generally routers don't need any drivers on the machines that connect to them. Unless you were connecting it via USB?

thank you irlrobins!! hmmm maybe i should have let windows pick it up and not have bothered with the disk but it wont pick it up at all now, i seen netgear one in argos, think its around €100 so i will have a look at that one.

irlrobins, you are a star, just one more question for you. I may be able to get my hands on the standard netopia one that eircom send out, is set up difficult on these for bt broadband

Never tried myself, but I think others have done it without any problems. Try a search on the broadband forum or if you can't find info, post a thread and ask if someone has done it themselves.
