Magnet - WiFi connection issues

Ok, so I got a replacement modem since my 2wire broke down.

The 2wire worked flawless and didnt have to do anything special except enter the WEP key to connect via WiFi. Have 4 machines that connect via WiFi cause the modem sits in a real ackward place.

The new modem, Telsey, gives me head aches... the RJ45 works fine so no problem.. but the wireless doesnt work at all. I can see the WiFi sometimes and sometimes not at all. I dont even get a error message or "wrong key" message when I connect.. it just doenst connect.

Support from Magnet said "use windows wireless wizard to connect, it always works"... but it doesnt and I said that. Called 3 times and had to que for 15min each time cause they didnt have time to stay on the line for 1 minute while I entered the WEP key.

Anyway.. what to do.. To me there is clearly a setting in the modem/router that is wrong.. but since Magnet doesnt allow us access to it I cant change it. Really frustrating this.. :(

Anyone had a similair issue or a solution?

Maybe check first if your signal is strong enough (on the client). You should see how many bars it has in Windows Wireless Connection (even before connecting, hit the View Wireless networks button)

Else you have enough signal maybe switch WEP off, to see if it is related to security

Also: your wireless card normally comes with it's on software (often more capable than standard Windows) maybe install that.

    wcool:

full strenght and the software that came with all four adapters are installed.

It has to be a setting on the routher cuase I can connect to other networks.. and the connection to the old 2wire was never a problem.

are you entering in the correct WEP key ( its MAGNET0 with the last 6 digits of the serial number attached )

Another thing is that the 2wire was a router, and as such allocated local ip addresses and utilised NAT on the public IP

the telsey modem is NOT a router and will attempt to assign each device conencting wirelessly a public unfirewalled IP, make sure your settings on each computer support this difference just in case you had anything set statically or altered.

    JNive,

actually I had public IPs with my 2wire as well.
So nothing has changed.. Thing is that sometimes I dont even see the network there.. it just disapears.. One of my neighbours have magnet since I have seen his WiFi the last 6 months.. I can connect to him/her but since I dont have the correct WEP key I cannot get an IP.
I cant even do this with my WiFi network.. :(

an alt. is for me to buy another router with WiFi and hook up and ask magnet to disable the wifi.. at least I can use my wireless then.. at the moment I cant. have a 10m cable running through the apt and the GF is not to happy about it...

JNive, thanks for replying.. really appreciated!!
