    Hi,

first of all...I'm by no means a techy !!

I have a small wireless network in my house running off of a netopia 3347 - no fancy firewalls, access limited by IP & wep enabled...more than that I don't know.

We have an au pair staying with us that keeps using emule from her pc & although I ask her not to - she keeps using it....

Is there any way I can block it ??? -

    Thanks

    Andi

Uninstall it? :) If you have Windows Firewall (probably do, you can modify it to block eMule I think). Start->Control Panel->Windows Firewall->Exceptions.

Doesn't exactly work when it's her PC Ruu. It would also be very easy for her to reinstall it OR enable it again in the software firewall considering it is her PC.

I know how to do this, but I need to be at the Netopia web interface to find out exactly where in the settings on the router it is that you can block ports. If nobody has posted a solution by the time I get home I will. :)
Essentially all you are doing is creating a new packet filter rule set that drops any outbound packets destined for any host on the ports that EMule operates on.

Also, it is very important that you put a username and password on your router, otherwise there is nothing to stop your au pair putting the router's ip address into internet explorer and enabling emule again.

E-Mule uses Port 4662 as it's default port for downloading data.

If you set up port forrwarding on the router to forward all data received on that port to your computer it will cut her off.

It is still possible for her to bypass this (By changing the download port) but it should make things a little more difficult.

    Worth a try.

Set up Squid as a transparent proxy on a linksys wrt54gl.

Other option could be to only let her have access to port 80 and 443 on ur router firewall settings. (router dependant)
