Potentially not. If it landed on your voicemail you might be able to invoke redial, I suspect it wont work though. Unless a network CLI came forward. Its highly unlikely.

O2 would know exactly who the caller is, but because of data protection regulations they cannot tell you unless you get a court order, or for example you report the call as malicious and get the guards involved. It is a pain, really, but all the networks are the same.

    Basically this is what happens.

When you call someone your Calling Line Identity (CLID) is sent.
If you've chosen to hide your number, an extra character is added to that number which tells the digital exchange you're calling not to present it. So, it'll display "Private" or "Withheld" or a similar message on the person's phone. However, it has received and stored your number in its logs.

If you're calling from Skype or some system that has no caller ID information you'll get a message like "UNAVAILABLE" or "OUT OF AREA" or on a mobile you might just get "CALL"

In this case, it just means that there was no caller ID info sent at all, and it wasn't just withheld.

Anyway, with regards to retreiving the persons number. Not a hope in hell! It was withheld and you'd have absolutely no right to have it. You'd need a court order / warrent.

Though it is not quite true, exchanges use a system called ANI for call logging and billing. Every exchange will support it, and it is not possible to block this information from being sent. When you call someone, your exchange forwards your number via ANI to the called party's exchange where it is recorded. CLID is a seperate service, the called party's exchange sends the CLID to the called party by default unless the number has been blocked at the caller's exchange, at which case, the called party's exchange wont forward it. If no CLID data is available, then you will probably just see Call on your mobile, that I dont know. But, owners of Private Exchanges like Dell, WIT and most small companies, will receive ANI data. These people can always identify the caller regardless of weither or not the number is witheld. Similarly, owners of 1800 numbers will often receive an ANI log with their bill, and or course, 999 operators also receive this data so they can identify the caller even if the number is witheld, usefull if the caller collapses or is not able to speak, their address can be obtained from the phone number. In the case of mobile callers, their location can be obtained from the network.
